Nov. 21, 2006 “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither temps he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” James 1:13-14 When you boil sin down to its base it becomes “all about me”. Satan was guilty. The scriptures called it “pride” so I will not second-guess. But what is pride? I believe it is “all about me”. Pride is what makes someone so bold that they believe they are smarter than their creator. Satan pushed his plan to take over heaven actually believing he was smarter and more capable of keeping God’s creations together. The scriptures declare that “all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made”. The scriptures also say: “all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Man cannot hold anything together. Man is a weak rendition of what God originally intended. God did not intend man to be a sinner; incapable of love and peace. God created man for fellowship. Today, men eschew God and try to hide their sins from each other or compromise their sin or pretend they can find absolution in man-created religions or drug confused forms of entertainment. Men fail. Men always fail when depending on other men. Men will stand and blame God for their failures, or they will stand and blame God for man’s greatest ills when it was they who brought ill upon their own heads through their own forms of lust and disobedience. Every man at some point in his life comes to know good and evil. Without eyes and a heart pointed to God then direction is lost. Jesus taught a straight and narrow path to the right doorway. Man teaches an indeterminate number of spiritual avenues all leading away from the true God. “Me” takes hold of the first path that gives pleasure and makes “me” smile. I am satisfied and no one is bugging “me” to be someone or something I don’t want to be. “Me” is happy. Yet some men are happy when they murder or steal or rape or press the limits of their gluttony or their alcoholism or their gambling addictions. Some men are happy to see their illegitimate children aborted or to see a competitor in business go bankrupt. Some men are just happy to see the misery of others. Some are very content being tyrants. Satan took Jesus to a hilltop and offered him the kingdoms of the world. Satan could not understand the rejection. His pride would not allow him to see how truly ignorant he’d become in his fall from grace. Men are tempted to sin by their own lust to be content. They miss the fact that in Christ all things are possible and all contentment is available. The Apostle Paul wrote that he could be content no matter the state he found himself in. God was always with him. He was completely secure. Paul never preached a sermon that was about “Me”. His sermons were pointed at the souls needing salvation. Jesus is always about the other man. He died as the substitute so that no man would ever again have to die. That is a Gospel that is “all about you”. “You” should probably pay attention to that. ------------ Email Skip: skiptoomaloo@hotmail.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
