Now We Truly Do Have A Stolen Election

By Edward Abraham
Nov. 10, 2006

The liberals in this country will make a huge mistake if they interpret what happened on Tuesday with any kind of significant political paradigm shift. It simply is not. Little, in fact, has changed since Bush won close elections in 2000 and 2004, while increasing the Republican hold on both Congressional chambers. Remember, we were told immediately after those elections by the mainstream press and the Democrats that Bush had no mandate for anything. In fact, he was warned to not even think about implementing his agenda w/o consultation with the Dems. Given the closeness of many of these congressional races, despite the endless carping by the mainstream media, I'd say the same rules hold true. And, truly, without the aid of the media, the Republicans still would rule Congress.

Liberals have to wonder where they would be without their buddies in the press. The media has successfully convinced a significant portion of the population that the economy is in ruins, despite the fact that by all historical measures of economic performance this is a virtual boom time. Similarly, the majority of Americans now stand in opposition to the Iraq War again despite that action actually comparing quite favorably to previous military operations. And let's not forget that most Americans, more than 60% in fact, stood in favor of the Iraq invasion even after the WMD's were not readily identified. Relentless media coverage, which counts casualties as if it is some twisted sporting event, and reports enemy successes with glee have taken a toll--one that was fully intended I may add. Is it any wonder our brave soldiers who return from Iraq have reported complete surprise at the way their efforts have been portrayed to the American public. Certainly, Iraq is not a resounding success, but neither is it the unmitigated failure the Democrats and the press would like us to believe. There remains far more upside potential than downside risk in that operation and, fortunately, enough brave people recognize this, which is why enlistment and re-enlistment rates remain high.

The major news networks and the largest news publications in this country have made a concerted effort since the contested election of 2000 to brandish Bush and his administration as clueless, heartless and incompetent. Make no mistake, the media is never on the side of a Republican (unless he or she is bucking his own party, in which case the press becomes like a kid on Christmas Eve), but the 2000 election truly turned ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, CNBC as well as The New York Times, Washington Post and LA Times, among others, completely against Bush and his team. This animus has become so strong that, regardless what decisions are made by the Administration, which direction it takes, it is lambasted by news people and so-called "objective" pundits. They tried to steal the 2004 election for John Kerry using trumped up 30 year old charges related to Bush's military service; CBS News resorted to using phony documents to aid in this regard. (John Kerry still has not released his questionable military records and the elites do not bat an eye.) Seemingly endless broadcast time was (and is) given to Bush's critics to publicly peddle their books while simultaneously bashing the president. When many of these individuals were later discredited, there was barely a peep from the same media types who provided the forum for the frauds in the first place. A natural disaster, the worst in this nation's history, was turned into nothing more than an avenue for assigning blame to Bush while casting him as some kind of racist, in what has to be one of the most ridiculous stretches of logic and reason ever applied--even in the political arena, which tends to attract absurd rhetoric as the norm. Republican "scandals" were elevated to earth-shattering status while the press helped hide the Democrats' skeletons in their own closet.

Yes, that's right, the 2006 elections have been stolen and, unlike the 2000 and 2004 contests when that word was improperly used to suggest Republican malfeasance, it truly fits this situation. What the media has done to Republicans is equivalent to larceny on the grandest scale. They hijacked reality and replaced it with their own version of the truth. Clueless Americans ate it up like a hot fudge sundae in July.

Fellow conservatives may belly-ache about their politicians not "acting like conservatives," which is given as the reason so many conservative voters were turned off, but this explanation misses the point. The liberal media, with the power it wields, has successfully immobilized conservative leaders, stolen their goals and objectives right out of their back pockets. The nonstop misrepresentation, misquoting and misleading reporting has rendered Republicans into nothing more than scared chickens. The press will simply not allow a conservative to be a conservative, not without a fight anyway. And, unfortunately, the current Republican party has nobody with the strength of Ronald Reagan to counter the media's twisted tenacity.

So we are now confronted with the likes of Nancy Pelosi, who recently stated one of her top priorities will be to implement mandatory minimum wage level nationwide in the "first week" of the new Congress next year. This is the Democrats' version of top notch leadership in action, giving a raise to a bunch of teenagers and retirees working at the corner market and saddling small businesses with some additional cost. Apparently, it is much needed legislation like this which made the emasculation of a wartime president so necessary.
