Ken Hughes' Act Is Tiresome And Not Worthy Of A Full Rebuttal

By Timothy N. Stelly, Sr.
Nov. 5, 2006

Ken Hughes and I have debated the issue of racism ad nauseum, so this won’t be a traditional rebuttal. While I have accused individuals of being racist, Ken Hughes has not only labeled me as such—but, he has denigrated an entire race. Ken doesn’t know me, but that hasn’t stopped him from making misinformed statements. Worse, he knows even less about the subjects he covers.

For now, I think I’ll let Mr. Hughes hang himself with his own (and often, misspelled) words.

Ken and I first fell out when he penned an article titled, “A Back To Africa Crops” (He meant “Corps”). Ken suggested a peace-corps like organization of black criminals and what not, and stated: “It would be understood, this program is for the hard corps ghetto kids. Not for someone who wanted to take a sunnier vacation. (Only bas-ass [sic] bros and ho’s [sic] need apply).” (June 14 2005). Not only is he ignorant, but he tries to be cute by using his interpretation of Ebonics.

Why Mr. Hughes thinks I am sow well off is beside me. In another of his errant epistles, he wrote: “I suspect your [sic] one of those affluent Black Activists extolling the Poor Me Syndrome for political or financial gain, convincing poor blacks it’s the Whiteman’s supremacy hanging over his head. Or is it just filling your wallet that enables you.” (“Mr. Tim Stelly, Let’s Talk About Racism,” June 15 2005).

Earlier, Hughes said that “Mr. Stelly’s a hypocrite he lives as well and better than many of his white neighbors. Mr. Stelly is an accomplished man gainfully employed.” (“Once Again Timothy N. Stelly, Sr. Proves My Point,” February 25, 2005). He doesn’t know me, and he is way off. I retired from USS-POSCO Industries in 2000, at age 41, due to a severe back injury. He cited the fact that I own a computer as evidence that I am well to do. Actually, I’m doing okay, nut with three kids, my income puts me below the poverty level.

Ken believes, “The Federal, State, and Local Governments have committed enough money to eliminate poverty to make every Black in America a millionaire several times over. There can only be limited answers, ether the people put in charge to administer the money are incompetents or Blacks are stealing it and spending it foolishly.” Huh? (“Republicans Aren’t Ignoring Blacks, Blacks Are Ignoring Republicans,” February 22, 2005).

However, Ken is full of more s—t than a Christmas turkey. Last October he declared, “Tim Stelly isn’t a racist even though I’ve accused him of being one at times, I did so not as an affront to Mr. Stelly, rather to use him as a lightning rod for others to prove a point. I know Tim was is big boy and can take the lumps. Mr. Stelly is a man defending his turf.” (“This Race Thing on UK Is Silly,” October 7, 2005).

He also wrote “The thing we all admire about Tim Stelly, he’s truly a man of forethought and wisdom. He’s one who deserves to be considered for UK’s Columnist of the Year.” (“You’ve Got To Love Timothy N. Stelly, Sr.,” November 19, 2005).

Ken once wrote, “Tim and I are friends and will always be.” (“Once Again Timothy N. Stelly, Sr. Proves My Point,” February 25, 2005). Well, when Ken announced his “retirement” from UK (March 26, 2006), I wrote: “…rest easy, my fellow Ukies—Ken isn’t leaving UK. Like the drunk, ugly girl at a party he’s looking for a little sympathy. Another beer or two and he’ll be all too eager to drop his drawers and settle for the illusion of being loved.”

Don’t look now, but he’s baaaaack! Beware, his panties are wrapped around his ankles and as usual, he sounds like he’s had way too much to drink.
