May 29, 2006 We gripe and complain about all of the Blacksploitation movies that come out and we waste our money on and how the White man exploits us on BET Videos, etc. So when a high quality, highly entertaining, make you think about your own power black movie hits the theaters, where are we? What are we looking at. From a reviewing perspective, the movie was well written, well edited, not formulamatic and perfectly cast. It isn't a "chick" flick, there was plenty in the movie to entertain everyone in any market. So where were we? Let me tell you where we will be if we don't get off of our collective behinds and support quality productions such as this one: -- Don't expect a flurry of new quality feature films that have mostly us in them unless they are Perry produced sense he is like Midas. In fact if this film is not successful you can expect that behind closed doors they are saying "well we gave them what they wanted and they still didn't show up." Money talks. You gotta buy the tickets. -- Don't expect to see us in anything of quality on the small screen until we prove that our economic clout can drive the powers that be to the bank. We cannot do that if we do not support the larger productions. TV does not do what is not proven -- that is what I am learning,. And all we have proven is that we are not consistent in our support of what we say we want. It was my personal hope that we would blow the box offices out of the water, then I could make a stronger case for change in the TV industry. We can do much more than just comedy. Comedic drama is a good place to start. If nothing I have said gets you thinking then do this: This is one of the few times you will be able to take a group of youths from your church, your kid's class, the local youth center to a movie that they may come away from inspired to do something different with their minds -- besides watch BET videos for their favorite role models. You do it. You do something. Or...just stay passive. Do nothing. And continue to complain about our invisibility when it comes to positive entertainment. Then consider how the same passive behavior applies to every social shortfall we are experiencing. The question is: what exactly did you do to help push this wagon out of the rut? Author bio: E.
