Who Shut Down The AbsoluteWrite Website?

By Argile Stox

OK, who was the wise guy who shut down the AbsoluteWrite (AW) website? Yeah, I know the story -- http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/007577.html#007577 and I understand the reasoning. However, what really bugs the heck out of me is that the person, who complained about her e-mail address being posted on AW, has her e-mail address posted on her own web site. I understand about spam. My mailboxes are inundated by spam and I just delete them all. However, what gives this person the right to chew-out the owner of the Host Domain owner and have the AW web site shut down? This just drives me nuts. I am nuts to begin with. This information makes my condition worse.

AW was not just a web site that dealt with complaints about PublishAmerica. It was a website that had many forums that dealt with many subjects about publishing, screenwriting, and other interesting discussion topics that were very educational. Now, the owner of AW has to spend time and energy to search out and contract with another host domain. As far as I can tell AW was in full compliance with all the rules and regulations regarding the World Wide Web. The host domain owner just panicked and pulled the plug on the site with one hours notice. This only goes to prove that no good deed goes unpunished.

As an ex –PublishAmerica author, I was now free to explore other forums on AW and learn something. When you are fighting tooth-&-nail trying to get out of your PublishAmerica contracts, AW was a good source of information and a good place to vent. Once an individual is released from their PublishAmerica contract, AW had other forums to explore. It is an all consuming – head banging, nervous breakdown time, trying to get out of a PublishAmerica contract. But, once you are free –you are free; End of Story. However, I just think that if a post on a forum contains information that was harmful to an individual, and that post was then corrected –the individual should have been satisfied. But, no! The individual has to have a tantrum and shut down a web site. Something about free speech is missing here.

OK, the AW site will be up and running soon. That is of course, if the owner of AW is just sick and tired of all this controversy, and says “The heck with it.” I am 95% sure that the owner of AW will not say, “The heck with it” –and will find another host domain to get AW back up and running again. I wrote the owner of AW and wished her luck. I told her that this whole entire mess was a pain in the a**. However, I know the owner of AW is a determined woman who has fought many battles in her lifetime, and will not back down. She is a wonderful lady and is committed to informing people of the perils of the POD publishing industry. She is also an accomplished author and speaker. In addition, she is a New Yorker. Need I say more?

On my side of the world, my doctor from the VA called a few minutes ago –and was worried about my white and red blood cell count. He is sending out a packet so I can perform a test at home and send it back to him. My next appointment with one of my doctors is on June 8 and another appointment with my primary care Physician is sometime in the third week of June. I still wake up tired as heck. I am taking all the pills that the VA doctors have prescribed, and I just received some more refills. Other than that, that is all I know for now. Oh, yeah. I am still knee deep in rewriting my memoir. It is a very boring task. One day, Tracy is going to find me with my head resting on the keyboard –snoozing.
