May 18, 2006 "Converting a free thinker to Christ is like telling a camel to pass through the needle eye." -- Olamide Ayeni The reason for this is because freethinkers aren't going to accept any religious story you tell them as cosmic "Truth" without any evidence to support that story. We're not that naive or desperate for comfort, understanding, or a solution. We're a patient people who are willing to wait for real and testable answers to come. We are less prone to accept the half baked answers provided by an intolerant religion. Imagine a man walks up to you with a Dr. Seuss book and tells you that The Cat In The Hat was a real being, and if you believed in "Him", "He" would open the mighty gates of Heaven for you, blah blah blah. You would look at this person as if he was a nut, wouldn't you? This is how intelligent, freethinking, people see Christianity. They see it as a joke; a religion for the weak. You can say "Jesus died for you" and quote from that novel you believe to be the "Word of a God" as much as you want to, but that is not going to be enough to make a person with common sense accept a mythological story as something that should be taken literally. The freethinker is too smart for this. Freethinkers are too good for religions like Christianity. They don't need the garbage Christians preach to find direction and purpose, or to understand where moral lines should be drawn. The Christian has even admitted that he / she would not be able to understand why killing or raping is wrong if it weren't for their religion. They no longer have enough sense to understand right and wrong on their own. This is how lost they have become. They can't even see the morality they already have, the morality that evolved into their instincts to ensure our survival. Only a person who bases their morality on a religion would be able to kill a person because that person did not follow the same religion they did, or because they were a homosexual. Only a person who bases their morality on a religion would be able to stone their children to death because they thought a God told them to. There are examples throughout our human history of how a person who dives too deep into Christianity can turn into a psychotic believer. This is another one of the many reasons why freethinkers are hard to convert. They want nothing to do with the ignorance of religion, nor do they want to become another victim of it's influence. Christians believe prayer will help us find Jesus and understand "The Word of God". Another thing they fail to realize is that prayer doesn't work. If a God exists, and if that God has a will, our requests and prayers can not change that will. If prayer works then that means God does not have the will Christianity claims he does. Because the freethinker's thoughts are free from the myths of religion, they understand that things will or will not happen according to the actions of the natural world and the people within that world. If you are a freethinker, you should be proud.
