![]() By Kaycee Nilson May 10, 2006 My best friend, Wanda, lost her mother recently to cancer. While the family is still in mourning, I felt the need to tell the world about this remarkable woman. A remarkable woman, Beverly was a master herbalist. Using her knowledge of herbs 25 years ago to put into remission breast cancer. But when it returned, it returned with a vengeance like no other. Given only days to live, her children moved her to Rush Memorial hospital and they prolonged her life for a few more months in order for her to not only say her good-byes to her children and grand- children, but to fight the dreaded cancer. On May 2, 2006, she lost that courageous battle. Her family regarded her highly and everyone she came into contact with was blessed with her remarkable smile and her Godly love for her fellow human being. She is one of the few women that truly cared about people and sharing her herbal knowledge was one of her passions. Her greatest passion of all was her family. Her six children and eight grandchildren loved her with a passion that she returned full force. They kept her young. They will keep her legacy alive. “Doc” (as she was known to many) was a senior divisional manager for Nature’s Sunshine Products and she was not only a remarkable sales person and a wonderful boss, but a living testimony to the products she endorsed. In the Bronzeville Area of Chicago, she opened the Herbal Connection Holistic Health Spa. Helping others unselfishly was her goal and her mission in life. As a long time resident of Chicago, she cared about the citizens and she cared about sharing the joys of herbal remedies that in many cases was better than man-made medicines. Her memorial service was lovely, the programs that everyone received is filled with love notes to her along with her favorite pictures. Beverly Jean Nicholson was a remarkable person and will be missed terribly and still loved. ------------ About the author: Kaycee Nilson has completed her first novel, "Night Falls on Chicago."
