The Phony Liberal Vs. Conservative Debate

By Timothy N. Stelly, Sr.
May 5, 2005

The liberal Vs. Conservative debate is a phony argument that has divided the American electorate and kept them in the dark. Most Americans are liberal on some issues, conservative on others, though they do hold an allegiance to a particular political party—which is where they supposedly earn their liberal or conservative merit badges. But not all Republicans follow the conservative mandate, just as there are some Democrats who don’t ascribe to the politics of Ted Kennedy. Blaming liberals for one diminishing aspect of American life and liberals blaming conservatives for the high level of intolerance is a superficial storyline to a bad American movie. Simply put, one group of liars can’t flourish without the others support, or the other side standing pat. So the problems that befall America are pretty much a cross-section of liberal and conservative idiocy, incompetence and inability to be flexible.

An example of this is the battle over fuel prices. Liberals say greedy Republicans led by Bush and Cheney simply created an energy policy that benefit their buddies in the oil industry. On the other hand, Republicans argue that liberals filibustering bills that would allow drilling in the Arctic Wildlife refuge is the cause for the current rise in gasoline prices. Both views make sense, but we live in a society that mandates we assign all the blame to somebody. We fail to see that both sides work off one another and actions (or inaction) on both sides of the aisle has led us to this sad state of affairs. The only time either side “bends” on an issue comes in the form of an attached rider to a bill. We can expect more of the same as long as we continue to re-elect these greedy, pompous, narrow-minded assholes.

Both sides are equally guilty of bluster and hyperbole. There is an equal share of idiocy on both sides. Half-truths, outright lies and con games come from both camps. Conservatives cry that Liberal Democrats practice “the politics of personal destruction,” failing to see they waged and lost a similar war against Bill and Hillary Clinton. Liberals cry that Republicans wallow in “a culture of corruption.” Yet they turned a blind eye to Al Gore’s illegal fundraising. This country is going to hell via bullet train because of BOTH.

Regardless of which party wins in 2008, the real decision-making power in terms of foreign policy lies with PNAC and The Rendon Group. The Supreme Court will decide Key issues such as abortion and affirmative action, not the nominees of the respective parties. But both sides will fire salvoes and lie to the American public while looking us in the eye. They’ll say that the perceived flaws related to those issues will be rooted in the other side’s ideology.

Michael John McCrae’s most recent column asked if the American people en toto can simply support the work of our government, as in days gone by. Fact of the matter is, nowadays we can’t trust our leaders. Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes have proven to be liars and in some cases, simply incompetent and two-faced. They lay and lie in bed with other world leaders, whom years from now will be denounced as madmen, megalomaniacs and enemies of democracy. Like pimps who sleep with their hoes, then kick them out on the block, so are American Presidents. The days of the great leader who could rally all Americans has gone the way of the hula hoop and the pet rock. Moreover, we no longer have an easily identifiable enemy. In days of yore it was communists and Russians. A philosophy and an entire nation, which also happened to be a superpower. Who is our enemy today? Osama is but one man. Yes, we oppose those who promote Jihad, but the idea is too abstract to indict an entire country. To indict all of Islam would be silly and superficial. So we remain at odds with each other.

Liberals and conservatives, Republicans and Democrats. Like drunks at a dysfunctional family reunion, they just wanna hit somebody and anybody will do.
