May 5, 2006 More evidence is gathering of catastrophic climate change...on Mars and Jupiter. First the scary news that Mars was warming up. Global warming strikes the Red Planet. Colonization of the planet by human beings has, it seems, another risk to factor in. And now there is evidence that global warming has struck Jupiter! The big gas giant has developed a new storm, in fact, though not as bit as the Red Spot which has whirled there for 300 years. Hubble Telescope images have revealed that Red Spot Jr. has grown and now rises above the top of the main cloud deck on Jupiter. The study, led jointly by Imke de Pater and Philip Marcus of University of California, Berkeley, has made some observations and has created a few hypotheses, much as climatologists do on the planet Earth. They admit, however, that "little is known about how storms form on the giant planet. " Indeed, even less is known about Jupiter than about how storms form here, which is not all that clear, either. The scientists hope that "the latest images could provide evidence that Jupiter is in the midst of a global change that can modify temperatures by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit on different parts of the globe." The scientists have blamed the warming of Mars and Jupiter on industrialization, the destruction of the rain forest, and upon overpopulation of human beings and their pernicious tendency to drive big SUVs. Global warming proponents using computer models predict that Jupiter may warm up so much that massive melting of glaciers and flooding of seacoasts could occur, and they are lobbying for immediate government restrictions on farming in the rainforests, limitation on CO2 emissions from power plants, and also for increased fuel efficiency standards for SUVs. The global warming propagandists have also proposed changing the phrase from "global warming" to "solar system warming." They would like to blame the warming of Marx and Jupiter on human activity as outlined above. First, however, they have to figure out a way to get the rainforests, power plants, and SUVs to Mars and Jupiter... http://www.advancedimagingpro.com/article/article.jsp?siteSection=7&id=2694 http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=192 http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/060504_red_jr.html ------------ About the author Brooks A.
