May 2, 2006 Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is caustic, abrasive and abrupt, and that's when he's playing with his great-grandchildren. When he is dealing with the media he is an ogre, chomping at the bit to tear any reporter's head off. Donald Rumsfeld has as many friends in the media as Jerry Falwell has admirers in The National Gay Task Force. It's no surprise that many in the media are demanding his resignation. Rumsfeld's abrasive personality was tolerable when we were kicking butt in Afghanistan and routing Saddam's troops in Iraq, but now that America is clearly losing hearts and minds as well as the war in Iraq -- nobody can stand the old codger. But now it's not just the so-called "liberal press" that hates Rummy, retired generals are coming out of the woodwork calling for him to step down. Prominent military leaders calling for Rumsfeld to resign include General Anthony Zinni, former commander of Central Command; Lieutenant-General Gregory Newbold, Major General Charles Swannack and Wesley Clark, commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization during the Bosnian War. Nobody is going to listen if this humble editorialist insists that Rumsfeld should resign or be fired, heck when I played cops and robbers as a kid, my brilliant strategy always led to the death of all my comrades. But we should listen when experienced and brilliant military minds accuse Rumsfeld of not sending enough troops to Iraq. Rumsfeld, as Secretary of Defense, was determined to demonstrate he could do the job in Iraq with a minimum of troops, relying on the "shock and awe" of our smart bombs to win the war. The generals also accuse the Secretary of Defense of failing to commit ample troops for stability operations after the initial victory. This is not a game of "Battlefield" that we are talking about, because of Rummy's stupidity, stubbornness and arrogance, thousands of our boys and girls are dying needlessly in Iraq. Unfortunately, Congress doesn't have the courage to impeach the commander-in-chief, at the very least we should demand the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes has written over 200 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
