Yes Taylor, God Is Real

By Skip Toomaloo

The question was asked and I red the column by Taylor Abbott, “Is God Real?”

I would assure Taylor that since the question is in her heart and mind that would be proof. God infuses that desire to know into each life and it is up to each individual to respond to the promptings of the Spirit of God.

One does not need to be concerned about “doing” anything to obtain special favor. Too, one needs not worry about forgetting something or omitting some type of good from the life. The Scriptures say that God is not a respecter of persons. Each human life is equal. They are equal in ability to be good or bad. They are equal in capacity to understand God and they are equal in judgment before God.

Romans Chapter One explains how every man has the capacity to know and understand God. It also explains what some men do upon having their understanding opened. Some reason themselves away from the grace of God by suggesting God is other than who he admits to be. They change God into something unintelligible or inanimate. They change the truth of God into a lie.

It is important to understand differences to know the truth from the fiction. There probably is not a thing I could personally tell you about God that would convince you to faith. Faith is an individual decision between you and God. I can tell you that a while ago I made a decision to take God at his word. I repented from what I was and asked God to allow me faith. He changed me as he had promised and now I understand more fully what it was I once very much doubted.

I can tell you too that your curiosity is what God desires. The scriptures tell the believer that no man truly seeks God but it is God that seeks man. Your questions tell me that God is looking at you and is finding ways to peak your curiosity. This is an important avenue toward faith. When men are not curious, but indifferent, then God has no message for the soul. When the heart of the individual is in serious search then God can deal with that heart and put forth the gospel with clarity.

Taylor, you seem to be a young person. This is also a good thing. You perhaps are not old enough to have been subject to worldly enticements that would redirect your questions. I am sure you are looking at the various religions and their offerings but I believe it is more important to ask God directly, without the promptings of any particular dogma of religion.

The scripture says that if anyone lacks wisdom they should openly ask God who gives to everyone the wisdom they need without any kind of rebuke. Faith is that individual moment in time where you trust God to respond to the desire of your heart. If your heart is forward in a desire for faith, God will grant that and you will know when he does.

Ask your questions and be amenable to the answers. I can report no miracle to you except God having brought me into faith when surely; faith was the last course I once considered.

Finally, I will tell you that I had been praying for Abdul Rahman. He was the fellow condemned to death for his Christian beliefs in Afghanistan. Today I saw a headline that the court in Afghanistan has dismissed the case against Abdul. I believe God answers prayer as I believe God has answered this one. I am not a fool to think that it was only my prayers that saved him. There were millions of Christians world over who took up that prayer. I believe God’s answer in this case was: “yes”.
