Mar. 27, 2006 If I were a batter, I would surely miss a pitcher of the caliber of Ken Hughes. After all, most of what he pitches up are softballs that I could crank out of the park. But, I digress, he will be missed by me and others. Useless Knowledge, I believe, is the stomping grounds of the novice writer who wants to speak their mind on current events, tell about their adventures and pass on their perspective of what affects those of us on this spinning rock. Sure, we don't always agree with each other but what are you supposed to do? We are all different, unique and opinionated. Ken Hughes first came across to me as a guy who expressed his views articulately but with bad spelling. But he often had a point, even if I disagreed with him. Most times I would write a rebuttal or just let it pass as I could see that his perspective did not match mine and I could live with that. However, walking away from the game is not the necessary step to defending your points. If that was the case, no one would ever speak up. Pundits and propagandists come all the time to attack whatever they dislike and at whatever angle they choose. Often times they use either spin or omission of facts to try and sway an audience. And they do. Ken Hughes, I don't wish you to go or think that you are homosexual. I think that is a coward's way to attack a person. If a writer wants to make a point, use fact and diplomacy. Don't resort to school yard bullying. One of my rules of personal conduct are as follows: You can not make fun of someone based on height, skin tone, sex, sexual orientation or class of birth. It is a matter of choices that are fair game. If you choose to wear a mullet, then realize that you will seem out of touch with modern times and could, and probably will be, ridiculed for it. I also respect Ken for putting his picture on the site. I have yet to upload mine because I am self-conscious of my looks. At least he didn't hide behind a pseudonym or pretend to be someone he is not so he could write whatever trash comes to mind. Take care, man. Don't let the bastids (misspelled on purpose) get you down. Sometimes you gotta fight because you have to.
