Mar. 26, 2005 In a paper entitled “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy” (KSG Working Paper No. RWP06-011), John J. Mearsheimer, of the University of Chicago’s Department of Political Science, and Stephen M. Walt, of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, outline the history of Jewish ascendancy over the White House and Congress, describing many of the mechanisms whereby Israel and its US Zionist collaborators, mostly but not exclusively Jewish, have consistently skewed America’s approach to the politics of the Middle East, having instigated the war in Iraq and seeking to instigate war in Iran and Syria as well. I used the word “Jews” in my title, rather than “Israel”, because many of the prime movers in the drive to secure Israeli preeminence or sovereignty in the Middle East are powerful American Jews. But I don’t mean to suggest that all American Jews are aboard the Zionist juggernaut. . The facts presented by these two scholars are well known to many observers, but this is one of the first times that professors of prestigious universities have stated the facts of the matter so bluntly, dispassionately and objectively. The very paper should make it clear that the authors well knew in advance that their work would be greeted with less than enthusiastic applause by members of Congress, influential journalists, members of think tanks and others that they have bracketed as constituting the Israel Lobby. So far many leading newspapers apparently have maintained silence about the report, which was published in England, because it would have been impossible to publish it in the US, since de facto censorship is very much alive in America. But the New York Sun denounced the report, and one Congressman, who probably cannot spell even his own title, called it “trash”. James Taranto wrote an idiotic critique in the Wall Street Journal, and I suppose other newspapers will follow suit eventually. It’s no secret that the WSJ is a Jew-run megaphone for Israel. Mearsheimer and Walt even quote Robert Bartley, former editor of the Wall Street Journal, “Shamir, Sharon, Bibi (Netanyahu)—whatever those guys want is fine by me.” So we behold the revolting spectacle of America’s most prestigious newspaper letting Israeli Jews dictate to its editor. Otherwise, the cogency of their arguments is amply demonstrated by their example of John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, who as Democrats, should be expected to oppose George Bush at every turn. This is the nature of partisan politics. But so overarching is Jewish power in politics, that neither of these candidates dares object to the war in Iraq or the confrontation with Iran. Obedience to Jewish dictates is higher than party rivalry. Will the US go on to conquer country after country in the Middle East, and, if so, what will be the response of Russia and China to a magnified American presence in Asia? These are questions of the sort Americans should be asking, and many of the answers can be found in this paper.
