Freedom On The Internet, Or Is It..??

By Ken Hughes
Mar. 24, 2006

There seems to be a small group of Useless Knowledge contributors who’re taking over editorial duties of Useless Knowledge. They’re on a crusade to clear those they deem unfit from the website. What is unfit, is it a person who expresses their views perhaps with slightly less perfection than the ”Perfect People” are willing to accept? Or is it a person who expresses an opinion contrary to theirs the, “Perfect Peoples?” If you peruse the new comments section of Useless Knowledge they the “Perfect People” unequivocally state they’re out to eliminate those they deem unqualified from the website, so much for freedom of speech and diverse opinions.

This past week I had three people e-mail me saying they’re leaving the site they no longer wish to have their names besmirched by lesser self-aggrandizing incompetents, their words not mine.

When I joined Useless Knowledge it was a website where novas writers could feel free to express their opinions and not worry if they were up to media standards. It was those writers who built the site not the new self proclaimed editors. I’ve had more than one e-mail asking if I wrote for other sites, they found the new Useless Knowledge hostility more than they could stomach. This has been going on for a year or more.

I’ve traveled half way around the world twice. I’ve meet Captains of Industry, Celebrities from many fields of endeavor. I have a hand written note from President Bush. Each year I get Christmas cards from the Whitehouse, Dr. Bill Frist, and the Doles. I think it’s fair to say I’ve been where these pseudo-intellectuals would like to go had coffee and returned. In the two and a half years contributing I’ve never mentioned any of this. I’ve always chosen to express opinion on current events and let my words speak [good or bad] for themselves. Like Will Rogers I’m just a country boy with county boy values.

What these “Perfect People” don’t understand it’s not so much how you say it as what you say. I suggest they go back and read the federalist papers and the anti-federalist papers. The misspelled words and the poor grammar are overshadowed by some of the most profound thinking man has ever read. The founding fathers for the most part were self-educated men. A period there and a comma here weren’t as important as building a nation guaranteeing mans right to be wrong.

Are these pseudo-intellectuals really out to improve Useless Knowledge or are they out to prove they’re the new voice for the site? It’s a pity some people are so ingrained with hostility they can’t see the better picture. What will their children grow up to be like?

I’ll continue to post articles until the web master chooses not to accept them. Not because I can’t go elsewhere, [I can and do] it’s because I won’t allow a bunch of sniveling snoots to run me off. These are my final words on this subject I’m like your television set I have an on/off switch if you don’t like my articles I suggest you use it.

I’ve always followed one rule before I judge another person I look in the mirror twice to see if I think the judge is qualified.
