Mar. 22, 2006 “16 But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.” (Psalm 50: 16-17) It is true that the unbeliever has nothing to say from God’s written word. They have no right to pretend to speak for God or speak against God. The hatred is sometimes palpable and it is always there. Those who speak from scripture in unbelief prove that they are only capable of casting away the words that lead to life. God knows this. A long time ago he spoke through his chosen to warn those who abused his law. “18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. 20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son.” (Psalm 50: 18-20) What do we see from the unbeliever and the unfaithful religionist? We have seen the so-called religious fall into adultery while we see the unbeliever fall to other enjoyments that become their gods. They use their mouths to speak against the believers who try to explain the way of life and hope and spiritual joy. They develop clever ways to slander the faithful then when caught in lies and deceit they play the victim. The Christian is the evil one trying to ram salvation down their throats. “21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. 22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:” (Psalm 50: 21-22) How many times have we read that God is terrible because he doesn’t exhibit the unbeliever’s idea of compassion? God is always kind, considerate, loving etc. He doesn’t care that men murder and hurt and steal and lie and cheat and cause destruction without any reason other than they believe it is okay to do that. Men make the mistake of thinking God is like them. God is nothing like the man you see walking the streets of earth today. Adam was made in God’s likeness and he lost that. Every man since hasn’t been close to that original state. The only one to surpass it was the Lord Jesus. It took God to come to earth to reclaim what the original man lost. God will “rebuke” and “accuse” and enforce his law against those who forget. He will “tear to pieces” and there will be “no rescue”. How much more powerful a warning would one need to awaken a soul? “23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God." (Psalm 50:23) The scriptures show the Christian how to exist with God; how to be cared for by God; how to ensure eternity with God. We are reminded to give God thanks in everything because in him we live and move and have our very being. The Christian is who he is only because this is how God makes him. We are assured of life.
