Mother Meera

By John L. Waters
Mar. 18, 2006

An blessed Internet friend asked me what I think about Mother Meera. I found a great many websites devoted to telling her story and promoting her work. In view of this, and particularly since I've never met Mother Meera in person, why should I say more? What can I say about Mother Meera that hasn't been said before?

Well, as I already said, an Internet friend asked me to check out Mother Meera and give my impression. And so that's what this article is about... my impression of Mother Meera and a little more. This article only presents my opinion, and I am entitled to my opinion no matter what you or anyone else thinks about it.

My opinion is that the girl who grew up and became recognized as Mother Meera would have been diagnosed as "psychotic" if she had been living in the United States of America. Horror of horrors!!! She would have been treated in ways which probably would have damaged her brain even more. Fortunately for herself and for the world, this girl wasn't raised in the United States of America. The fact is her family treated her with great kindness and loving patience. Later she married a strong and kind man who saw a comforting brightness all about her, and he helped her continue in developing this special character. Because of so much loving patience, loving providence, and loving kindness, today we have in Mother Meera a living saint. She projects abundant kindness, patience, and love.
Mother Meera blesses people by being silent with them and by looking at them while in a state of rapt attention. She also blesses people by gently touching them. She learned this state of rapt attention easily because of her special nature and her special ability and disability. Many other persons have a similar nature, but they aren't treated as kindly, as patiently, and as providentially, and so they don't develop into such useful and popular persons as Mother Meera.

Mother Meera is a very useful and popular person because she inspires a great number of people. She lifts people up to a very high place, and this is why they remember her for the rest of their lives. In fact many persons who meet Mother Meera have never met any person who is anything like her!

Try and imagine now, a future time in which most any community of a thousand persons has at least one or two such persons. Imagine a Los Angeles or a Mexico City in which hundreds of thousands of talented and trained persons are able to uplift people using exactly the same method that Mother Meera uses. Such cities will indeed be heavenly places, as will also be the New Jerusalem.

You are free to laugh, but remember that people laughed at Robert Fulton's steamboat folly, and people laughed at the Wright Brothers flying tests at Kitty Hawk and people laughed at Robert Goddard the dauntless American rocket pioneer. You are free to laugh but some people will not laugh at my project.

There are hundreds of millions of psychitic people living today. Not all of them are exactly like any one person. However, there is a process going on that the famous psychologist Hans Jurgen Eysenck called "psychoticism" Eysenck claimed that geniuses and insane people both are high in this trait, but geniuses, like Mother Meera, receive a great deal of positive feedback when they are young. Mother Meera serves as an example in support of Eysenck's theory. That's what I think. Remember, this is just my opinion.

What Mother Meera does is gaze blankling into the eyes of people and people connect with her through sustained eye contact. Swami Rudrananda did exactly the same thing, and so did Swami Muktananda. Many other spiritual teachers use exactly the same technique to "bring down" the radiance of heaven and fill each visitor with this radiance for a little while. Then, it's up to the disciple to study about this heavenly sense and cultivate it so that they become able to bless people in the same way. Exactly how this works remains something of a mystery.

In most any book on psychopathology there are accounts of children and adults who don't talk and who gaze blankly and show little or no facial expression as they gaze with rapt attention. What exactly is going on in the brains of such peculiar people? What exactly is going on in the brain of Mother Meera as she gives darshan? Well, she might not understand science and she might now want scientists investigating her talent. And that is her right.

There are a great many psychotic children and young adults. It's likely that many of them can be helped in the same way I was helped. You see I have some similarities to other yogis who sometimes project what Swami Rudrananda called "yogic force." These two words might not be 100% appropriate but to find out what description is 100% appropriate there will need to be some really bright professional scientists take this subject seriously and devote considerable time to making a thorough and definitive study. There are a huge number of potential experimental subjects!

Mother Meera opens the golden door.
