Illegal Immigration And Other Observations

By Craig Chamberlain
Mar. 14, 2006

Arlen Specter (R-PA) wants an immigration bill with a guest worker program(that's called amnesty in the real world). So 12 million illegals isn't enough? We have to open the door even more. Previous amnesties have resulted in surges of illegal immigrants. President Reagan signed such a bill back in 1986, and amnesty didn't lessen the people crossing illegally it increased the number. It sent the message that they can break our laws and we will let them get away with it.

All of the arguments in favor of open borders are as weak as Senator Feingolds mental capacity. But I'll get to the good Senator another time. First we have the Libertarian screwballs that think that the free market is the way to go except when it comes to the American labor market. See apparently we're too lazy, too stupid, or too whiny to take certain jobs. Jobs such as construction, agriculture, landscaping, etc. They insist that allowing an unregulated flood of immigrants into the country benefits everyone. Well not quite. First of all Americans are quite willing to do the jobs that are supposedly beneath us. The vast majority of construction workers, for example, are American. So apparently there are some people born in this country willing to do the work. It probably won't stay that way for long. If the libertarians win there will be so many illegals in the country that they will be doing all the work, after all how is an American worker supposed to compete with an illegal willing to do the job for a lot less? Illegal immigration will erode the middle class in this country, and that won't be good for anyone.

Now don't get me wrong, I haven't suddenly converted to protectionism. My objections to illegal immirgation doesn't come solely from a desire to protect the American worker. But if someone is coming to this country they have to come in according to the law. Which brings me to the second group of people who want vast amounts of illegal immigration: the activists. They will tell you that the illegals come here for the same reason that all the others came, they are looking for a better life. Yeah, I'm sure that is what the MS-13 guys tell INS. Many come here legally, so if you want the American dream why break the law? The truth is that many illegal immigrants have crimnal records, and they don't change their criminal ways when they come across the border. The run drugs, weapons, there are even reports of human trafficking. I don't know about you, but these aren't the type of people that should be coming into this country.

The United States, as with any country, has a right to say who comes in and has a right to know who is here. Instead we have a wild uncontrolled border with one million coming every year and we have no idea who they are. But reports are that OTM's(other than Mexicans) have gone up by 42% and many of them are of middle eastern origin. Ranchers have found Korans, and prayer rugs along the border. Call me paranoid but when we are at war with radical islamists shouldn't we be doing something about them sneaking into the country?

So it's time to cut the bull. Illegal Immigration is not an economic boom for this country, but it is a security risk. It's time to get that wall built.

Onto something else. It must have been quite a shock for Fidel, the worlds favorite Tyrant, to see a sign that said "Down with Fidel" at a game between Puerto Rico and Cuba. The game was being beamed into the homes of Cubans and they could actually see someone expressing their opinions. The Cuban government reacted in its typical thuggish behavior. A Cuban official, Angel Iglesias, ran into the stands to confront the fan but was stopped by Puerto Rican police who took him(Iglesias) away and gave him a little lecture on free speech. Nice to know that the Puerto Rican police wasn't going to be bullied by this jerk. Still Fidel has no need to worry. Anyone in Cuba tries to speak out and he can just make sure they vanish, and his friends in Hollywood will still tout him as a great leader. I mean after all they have such a great health care system down there, in fact Cubans think it's too good for them. So good that they build rickety rafts and try to sail to Florida.
