Mar. 13, 2006 “The Antics of Sam" is a splendid tale worth telling, in my book. I do not have a book in which I speak of this subject so I will share with those who choose to read this. I changed the name of Sam to Rupert so Sam wont get any more pressure on him by the others. This is a simple tale of greed and dictatorship. The first of four was born into this middle call family. Oh, already I can tell what you are thinking. You think "Why, why is this story of a dictatorship when it is just a small single family and not a country?" Is there really a difference? This little boy got all that he wished. His family, mother and father in this case, were loving and generous. Now, five years of bliss is the life for this dear boy, we shall call him Danny boy. People from all over the world heard of this special boy and mostly all would always tell him how special he was. You see dear people, when you always tell someone just how special they are they will grow up believing this. At five yeas old another child is going to grace us from this special family. After all the preparations the great day is here. A female child has arrived and the blessed couple now had two to love and cherish. Danny Boy didn't like the idea but he still got the attention that he needed so he really had no concerns about his new sister. He thought he was going to have to share his toys and love but after he saw how life was with this new arrival he was good with it all. With the arrival of "Angel" all was so good in the world. The parents were joyful and Danny was still on top. He got to go with his dad to work and on many trips to the country side. Now, while out on these trips the grooming of Angel was starting. She was visited by many and just like Danny Boy, she was also told by all especially her parents that she was special, and like the rule, she also was growing up to be special. Five more years pass and low and behold as the trend would have it another child was born. Rupert was a special person also but the hard working father would not have the time for him as he did the others. The Mom, now having to work to support three children while the dad who was also busy working, just didn't know that three children would cost so much money. Danny boy, now about ten was starting to see that this ordinary child born into this special home was going to be nothing but trouble. He started to do and say things to this child to help make him grow up horrible person. Angel would keep to herself because she felt even more special then everyone in the whole wide world. Low and behold we have another arrival in this family and now things were getting tight. Food was scarce and although it was due to having four, it was the third getting all the blame of this family's woe. The fourth child was Katrina and she was beautiful and greatness was going to be at her greatest asset. Now some may say this is starting to sound like a Cinderella story but it surely is not. Danny boy, now a teen as well as Angel were often seeing shows with relatives. Rupert was allowed to clean and do many chores. Oh, the whole family had there share of the chores but the two older of the four decided that they were too special for these menial tasks. The parents agreed to their demands and left the chores on the two younger children. Now time passes and this family is older but know wiser. The two younger children, grown up now, are living far away but the two older children never really grew up so they lived near the mother and the father. Oh Rupert would visit on occasion but was told he was an unwelcome person in there special world. Rupert, seeing that his father who treated him so badly was ill, took up camp in his fathers home, taking care of him until his passing. The other two children had had only one concern and that was if they would see any profits from their fathers death. When there was some talk of a cash prize Rupert was driven out on a rail. Angel was a very demanding person. She demanded that her life was kept up to par where she was and always treated special. Now Katrina pays a visit but she asked for nothing and was not a threat to the special Angel. She was allowed to come and go as she pleased only because she told the two older children what they loved to hear. Rupert never gave them that courtesy therefore he was a threat to their little clan. Rupert never asked for anything either but they thought there was always a chance. The quivering quills started to run amuck. Rupert was receiving letter by these children who were in adult bodies. They held threats and warnings telling him that he was not welcome in there village any longer and that if he did show up there he would be arrested and sent to the gallows. Rupert never wondered for a second why, he knew that greed was afoot. Now Rupert's mother took ill. Rupert knew if he could sneak over to the village he could see her one last time to make peace with her. He imagined taking care of her making her last days on this, Gods earth, an easier one. The others would let her lay in her bed never once offering comfort and this hurt Rupert most of all. It never once mattered that it was his mother laying there ill but a fellow human in pain. He knew the others would never show the compassion that he felt towards others. This was the law of their land. The children knew that a profit split in four would never suffice and split in two would be better. The mother lays there in much pain while Rupert was the one suffering deeply. Katrina thought she was in on the plan but the two older children would lead her on willingly until the time came of their mothers passing. Rupert sent many messengers to the village but all were intercepted. Joyfully the two older children were reaping the rewards they always had and were happy as two clams in the ocean. One rainy night Rupert got on his white steed and decided he would sneak into the village and tend to his mothers needs. He was captured by the guards and shackled to the dungeons. You see the laws of that land were as follows. "He who is a black sheep among men and women of riches would not convent this land." The two older children and now siblings of these elders were living just as planned. Oh of course if there was to be someone not agreeing with the now king and queen of the land they would be banished. Rupert was indeed shackled but he grew so thin from not eating soon he was able to slide out of his chains. With the look of anger on his face Rupert says "Oh, thy keepers against my will shall reap no more. Oh its on, Donkey Kong." He knew that just going to the land where his dying mother was being kept a prisoner to their whims would be too risky for him to dare, so he decided to be cunning and sly and beat them at there own gain. A small pigeon lands on moms window. He carried a note from Rupert. The mother holds out her finger and the bird flies over to her. She reached and pulls the note off of the pigeons leg and begins to read. "Dear mother. It pains me to see you as sick as you are. I want to visit but have been taken prisoner in the dungeon of Angel and Danny boy where I will stay until the day I die. I hope the pain is not overwhelming for you and always remember I love you with all of my heart. Let greed and no man stand in the way of happiness. God awaits you now so go and be happy. Love Rupert." The mother drops the note and smiles. She was told that Rupert didn't care enough to come to see her. She was told that he hated her. Now she knows the truth. Danny boy and Angel were coming for a visit and saw there Mom sitting up and feeling better. This made them very angry seeing their riches getting pulled out from under them. "I cannot wait any longer. I need funds to do the things that I love. Danny Boy said. Angel said "It cannot be much longer; maybe I should starve her or better yet poison her, no, we shall wait." Angel said. as she devised yet another devilish plan. Now as Rupert received word of his matre getting his message he dressed up like a jester and headed towards the castle. He entertained the old women and made her smile as the two evil doers kept a close eye. The evil two decided to go away and spend some more money curtesy of their mother as Rupert slowly took off his mask. The look on his mothers face was thanks enough. He told her everything and she knew now that her two older children were dregs and she was being manipulated as the fool. She devised a great plan of her own. You see the mother knew she was lied to so she decided that the best revenge was to live a long live and enjoy the riches of the ones that really loved her for her. She also knew the monsters she created and knew that someday they would regret living the lives that they do and that would be revenge enough for her and Rupert. Mother wrote a letter that was not to be opened until the night of her demise and it read simply, "For when I do decide to go forth to the kingdom of God, you are on your own suckers." ------------ About the author: Bob D Caterino is a writer that we all either hate or love.
