![]() By Ken Hughes Mar. 12, 2006 Sometime ago I promised not to get into personal debates with other UK contributors. This article will be an accumulation of questions and rebottles for Sohrab F. who supposedly lives in Iran. The reason I say supposedly is because the return e-mail address has a definite Irish ring to it. From personal experience I doubt it’s that easy to get information in and out of Iran. I’m not suggesting the article is anything other than legitimate I’m just skeptical like I said, “Experience.” Is it Sohrab’s contention the United States is required to jump through hoops every time a third world theocracy demands it. The United States has made no official statements threatening advances toward Iran aside from joining the rest of humanity is demanding they not become a nuclear power. America being a truly free society where all opinion is protected, our government has no control over what some say and write. Hostility toward Iran is a matter of personal choice. As for our government contributing money to the over throw of the current Iranian government, “what’s your point?’ Sohrab relates a litany of accomplishment Persians have claimed for the past multitude of centuries. Let me point out in the past 225 years the United States has given the world more than Persians have in 5000 years. For the majority of those years Persians have been a conquered people. Sohrab makes reference to King Cyrus as having given the world human rights. Cyrus was a Greek conqueror who brought Greek democracy to Persia He gave the name Persia to what was then known as Iran. The name Persia comes from the Greek word Persis Reza Shah Pahlavi proclaimed Iran as the official name for Persia in 1935. Iran, Persia [whatever] have spent their years as ether the conquered or repelling the conquers. War and tribal disputes are as common to Iranians as hair is to goats. Until the region settles their own disputes it rings hollow to blame America for their lack of accomplishments and contributions to a modern world. Sohrab suggests Iran should have been compensated with land from Iraq for the 8 year war where supposedly half a million Iranians were killed. I would point out the United States has been involved in four major wars and a dozen smaller brush wars in the past century and not once have they demanded land as the victor. In fact they’ve given aid and assistance to the vanquished in every case to rebuild what was destroyed by war. Wars are no longer fought for territorial gain, now they’re fought to correct evils and free the oppressed. Can Sohrab honestly say Iranians have the same rights under a Muslim Theocracy as those in the western world? How many illegal immigrants migrate to Iran each year to escape poverty and oppressive conditions in America? If Americans did migrate to Iran would they be allowed to practice their religion, would they allow Jews, could they openly disagree with the Iranian governments policies..?? We know the answers and so do you Sohrab. Many in this country [USA] would say to you Sohrab stay out of our space with your ridiculous propaganda. Not me, I welcome the absurd comments you gave us. How else are we to determine the extent of the brain washing that goes on in Iran? The level of hysteria that’s going on in Iran only goes to prove how dysfunctional they’ve become as a Pure Muslim society. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes joined the Republican Party at the age of three.
