![]() By Jack Lepiarz Mar. 8, 2006 Shortly after being quoted in the New York Times, I was approached by a man working with a media company called Uth TV, and offered the chance to write a blog for Uth TV. After a month of correspondence and planning, I managed to eke out my first podcast, co-hosting "The Katherine and Jack Show," with one of my closer friends. After some technological improvisation (we're still working on smoother transitions and better sound quality. It's hard to manage a hi-tech podcast on a simple laptop computer), we managed to figure out how to work out how to record our voices and background music simultaneously. The music isn't exactly perfect quality, but it works for the moment. So now the Katherine and Jack Show is up and running on UthTV.com and Katherine and I are both working on creating a show that remains light-hearted and funny while appealing to kids around our age. It's harder than it sounds. Writing material with massive audience appeal is difficult. Writing FUNNY material is near impossible--surprising for a kid that has grown up around show business and making people laugh. Of course, I have no idea how people respond to the show. I certainly hope that their response is positive (all the feedback I've gotten so far has been positive, so that's definitely a good sign. If anything, this podcast allows me to be more of a teenager in my limited public life. Though I often write from a teenager's standpoint for U-K, I often refrain from the actual language that I would use in conversation. This podcast allows me to be more of myself and talk about issues that are not as far-reaching as politics, religion, or other social issues. I can talk about movies (our first discussion was on Brokeback Mountain), music, or just high school in general. This gives me the chance to be more colloquial--and to get my name out in a format other than writing. Either way, flop or hit, I'm looking forward to what the Katherine and Jack Show will bring. ------------ About the author: Jack Lepiarz is a senior at Madison High School.
