There's Always One Bad Apple...

By MA Goodwin
June 29, 2006

I have enjoyed Useless Knowledge for several years now. I have been touched by many of the stories, have laughed at many more and have paused to think after reading several. I've always been thankful for the varied views and more often than not, my own thoughts have been challenged and I have learned something beyond my own political, social and educational boundaries.

Lately though, I have found myself rolling my eyes at the behavior of one writer, who finds it necessary to pull her skirt above her head and scream 'look at me, look at me!'. She constantly refers to arguements or issues at other forums that somehow involve her, and then feels she has to 'clear the air' here, like anyone really cares. This is all attention-seeking behavior, and frankly, I'm getting tired of it. I can't count how many times she's reminded us who her husband is, who she is, what her views on this are and what her views on that are. We've heard it over and over again, and we know the drill.

I frequently enjoy this writer's posts, and look forward to intelligent, witty and thought provoking writing. I often kick myself when I open her posts, thinking I'll get something worthwhile, and see yet another 'oh, poor me, someone is picking on me somewhere else, let me 'correct' them over here so everyone can see how unfair they are, and oh, let me tell you who I am all over again'.

Most writers know, if you don't want people to talk about you, then don't supply them with ammunition. A wonderfully well written peace on celebrities shunning public attention was written by this writer the other day. She should heed the advise she gave the celebrities. She has put herself and her husband's names and life on these pages. You can't scream about someone writing about you, if you provide the details. If you want your life private, then keep it to yourself, and then don't jump up and down screaming on this board when someone says something you don't like on another. Go to THAT board and 'clear the air'.

But I suspect she really doesn't want the air cleared. To 'clear' the air, means she is ignored, or becomes 'just' another writer.

I would think someone with a 'background' in psychological profiling would be much better able to figure all this out.

I will continue to read Useless Knowledge, and will support it anyway I can, but when the drama queen decides to concentrate on writing and not grand-standing, then maybe I'll truely enjoy all the contributions.

Write on.
