This piece was largely informed by a position of a 'learned' fellow Blogger who declared "...the insurgency in Iraq won’t last forever…". True but neither will the US Military. As with all Great Empires decadence arose from military victories and triumphs – the soldiers became bloated and could not fight no more. America has been trying to exorcise itself from the demons of Vietnam and prove to itself that it was incomprehensive, then, that yellow little men running around in pajamas and skirting through rice paddies dodging helicopter gunships, B-52 bombers and napalm raids could humiliate America…incomprehensible that wogs in modern day turbans with Ak-47’s and improvised explosive devises;'sometimes stolen from Americans] can again frustrate ‘The Most Powerful Military in the World,’ and so with gusto (again and again) incrementally call in all sorts of advanced weaponry to kill a small enemy who in its time and choosing lets loose havoc and mayhem on all it deems a ‘legitimate target’, meanwhile ‘fringe’ casualties on both sides of equation are designated 'collateral damages’, both sides on the ground and at home try to exploit political capital out of the unfortunate chaos and mayhem , but to say the insurgency will die out is to have said same of Yasser Arafat, like California wine -one thing is certain in the context the ‘occupation in Iraq’ the US presence will never last forever – we gotta go home some day folks. With Iraq as a case study and referal point in no particular sequence here are some signs that one day someday………………… 1. FAILURE TO DEFEAT ENEMY ON THE BATTLEFIELD This the reason for an oppressive, an unexplainable and widely unpopular detention scheme at Guantanoma Bay – a facility which defies all protocols of the The Geneva Convention – no mum, the combatants won't wear uniforms ,ever! To get swatted with a sledgehammer? For them it’s a trick of the trade – so why don’t we just head back to the days when armies lined up against each other and shot musket balls through their ranks and each others skulls. 2. FAILURE TO ACQUIRE CREDIBLE INTELLIGENCE The lines are blurred when the Pentagon and the CIA cannot seem to decide who should apply the thumb screws (torture folks, torture....) and then decide to carry out the dastardly act(s) outside our shores so the Prez and Rummy can claim deniability. 3. FAILURE OF PROFESSIONALISM Boys, not men are sent into the heat of unconventional battle leading to ‘wanton killing’ of defenceless civilians and other forms of debasement and psychological warfare (ABU GHRAIB) 4. FAILURE TO RIGHTLY TRANSLATE MILITARY MIGHT INTO ITS PROPER SURGICAL NATURE Sadly with all its sophistication the US military might is being handled like a blunt instrument ....take the killing of Al-Zarkawi, for all we he should have been identified following the strike by a body part here and there but no, the guy almost survived it……….. and had he survived!
