June 21, 2006 I was reading an editorial recently which pointed out that many Christians quote Leviticus stating that "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." But the editorial pointed out that eating shellfish or pork is also an abomination in the same book (Leviticus). So is a Christian who eats pork better or worse than one who is gay? Another big controversy is the "blasphemy," by Dan Brown suggesting that Jesus might have gotten married and had kids. Now I have never found a passage in the bible stating that he didn't get married... Talking with Christians it is explained to me that if Christ had been married, it would be in the bible, therefore if it is not mentioned, he wasn't married. I have to disagree, but you will have to follow my logic to understand the mindset of the day. In several parts of the bible Adam, his children, Jacob, et all are told to "Be fruitful and multiply upon the face of the earth." The punishment for a woman who becomes not a virgin while unmarried is death, (remember let he who is without sin cast the first stone?) so I suspect that the way people at the time were supposed to be fruitful was by getting married. Now if God has decreed that everyone must be fruitful, and you can only do so while married, it stands to reason that a man who is not married is not obeying God. For a 33 year old man to not be married would be an abomination at that time, especially since it would suggest homosexuality. If being single was the norm at the time, the bible would mention if Jesus was married, as it would be useful information. Likewise if being married was the norm, and Jesus was single, the bible would tell us so. But the bible would not bother mentioning something as obvious as a 33 year old man being married any more than a historian would mention that Jefferson or Lincoln was Caucasian. The bible does not state that Jesus was not gay, does that mean he was gay? No, of course not. The bible says that being gay or being a single 33 year old is wrong, so of course Jesus was neither. Another gripe I have, most Christians pick and choose their commandments. Did you know that the Levitican punishment for three crimes are identical, adultery, homosexuality, and cursing your parents are all punishable by death. Of course, adultery and cursing your parents are commandments, so I guess they are not as bad as homosexuality? While we are at it, whatever happened to "Thou shalt have no other gods before me?" I constantly hear people praying to Jesus or Christ, not to God. What happened to "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven (possessing sensitive and deep feelings) image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath...Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them..." How often have you seen someone praying to the cross, or holding prayer beads? It is odd that the bible makes it so clear that you should pray to god by lifting your hands to him, and yet people have come up with so many other ways to worship, and yet claim to follow the bible.
Of course I probably shouldn't care, after all, it was
Jesus who said "Judge not lest ye be judged." So here
is my deal: if the so called Christians who only
follow the biblical commandments which they like will
leave me alone, I will leave them alone, but if idiot
proselytizers come after me, I will not hesitate to
show them the many errors of their ways.
