To Stock Market Or Not To Stock Market?

By Amanda Baker
June 18, 2006

That certainly is a question. New investors have to ask this question. There are more questions a new investor has to ask also: such as, What is the market vocabulary? How do I pick a good stock? Should I buy then sell a day, month, year or a couple of years later to make money? Will I loose money? How do I do this? How much money should I invest?

These questions spawn more questions. Like: Do I read "The Wall Street Journal"? Where do I research the stock? Do I get a broker? Do I want to try e-trading? What are Mutual Funds?

I don't have the answers, being an ignorant house wife. What I do know is that only working a nine to five job and not saving can lead to a retirement on the street. Or could lead to a life dependent on government hand outs.

A lot of elderly people, depend on the government to support them. They were hard working individuals, and some did save for retirement, but they did not save enough, (since with expensive medications the elderly population is living longer). The elderly demand that the government provide services. The elderly are the largest voting group in America today and they vote. They have time to vote, so the politicians will cater to what their demands are. That is just what is happening.

Where does that lead the working public? Where does that lead people who make less than what their parents made? This working generation can't place all their income in one basket. The working public must have several plans to get out of debt and to save money for retirement. This is the only way to keep an economy going. An economy that will take more and more for taxes to spend more to support an aging population, than the government will pay for children's educations.

The problem is not simple. The answer to all of the questions, that has been asked, is: Research. There are many resources for new investors. It just takes motivated individuals to do that research. Don't depend on other people's knowledge, go out and get it for yourself.
