June 15, 2006 Many months ago I wrote my first article on the Holloway case. Looking back at what I wrote I discovered that the same words would apply 13 months later. There appears to be a collective mindset on Aruba that truth is secondary to one's job and one's desire to pander to the tourist trade. I believe that the truth of what happened to Natalee Holloway is known by some on Aruba and has been known from the very beginning. I also believe that a chain of events was set in motion from the moment that she was reported missing until the present time. It has become so convoluted and so much is on the line concerning this obvious cover-up that there is no going back. Many believe that none of the "suspects" are guilty of anything and that the ALE has done all it could do to solve this case. I believe otherwise and there are many reasons why I feel that way. I also believe that as long as The Netherlands are an ally of the USA and as long as large American Corporations are involved on Aruba and in The Netherlands, we will never know the full truth of happened to Natalee. She is but a blip on the radar screen compared to what could be lost by divulging the truth at this late date. I don't think that this is a complicated case and I don't think that it would be difficult to solve had the initial investigation been run by men and women with integrity and a healthy respect for the law and for human rights. I believe that the truth was covered-up as a favor to a friend and it snow-balled from there. It got to the point where too many were involved and too many could lose their standing if the truth should come out. Natalee Holloway was an American teenager on a pleasure trip and she fell prey to the anti-social behavior of a few. She made herself vulnerable through her naivety and the belief that nothing bad could possibly happen to her....a belief held by many young people. There is an invincibility held by the very young and it takes age and awareness to realize that no one is completely safe anywhere. There are many corporate and political interests involved in this case...not that they are responsible for whatever happened to Natalee, but in the sense that they have a lot to lose if it were to be exposed that the people who are running the place are corrupt and inept. With a total of ten "suspects" arrested and questioned thus far it is hard to believe that NO ONE knows what happened to Natalee and that NOTHING of forensic value was ever found. It appears on television as if the entire Island has been turned upside down with the many searches, but places of great importance were never properly searched and without that we will never know where Natalee spent her final moments on earth and if certain individuals were involved in her disappearance. Even if the NY Courts were to move this case forward and some of the principals in the case were called in to be questioned in open court I doubt that the truth will ever be known. The lies will continue because they must. The truth is known to several people involved in this case but those very same truth holders are never going to tell it because they have too much to lose and they have involved many people who would sink with the ship of fools who actually perpetrated Natalee's disappearance. They offered protection and therefore made themselves accessories to the crime. Now they are trapped in the web of their own complicity. Beth Twitty and Dave Holloway will never let go of their daughter because they have a huge, terrible void in their lives and the unknowing makes that void even more painful to live with. The cruelty in allowing these people to wander the earth searching for their daughter when some know of her whereabouts is beyond comprehension to those who have never suffered such a loss. It is easy to make statements about the personalities and character traits of these people that most of us don't really know and it is easy to take sides for or against them, but is it right? Does anyone have the right to call the mother of a missing child names and to accuse her of theft without having any tangible proof that any of these accusations are true? Does anyone have access to her bank accounts, her life, her inner thoughts, aside from those she is close to? The answer is no, yet some continue to sling mud at her in the hopes that if enough ridiculous accusations are made that something will stick. How is it that people can ignore what the real and pertinent facts are regarding Beth Twitty? She is a mother who had a daughter and that daughter is no more. She is a mother who has searched for her daughter and continues to search for her no matter what obstacles are thrown in her path. How can that be criticized? What mother wouldn't do the same? To malign her and libel her is just as horrific as the false hopes that some have given to her and the lies that have been told to her about her child. You may not believe that ANY of the known "Suspects" are guilty and that is as it should be...we all have the right to believe in whatever we feel is true. We DO NOT have the right to continually beat a person who is lying on the ground prostrate before us and who's suffering is obvious. That is simply wrong. If you are a seeker of the truth and you believe that some have been wronged than seek it in a humane fashion and not by attempting to further scar and injure someone who has already suffered the ultimate injury..the loss of a child. If you want to defend a "Suspect" than by all means do so and find facts that exonerate this person. Do not simply attempt to tar and feather someone else to prove your case. How does throwing baseless accusations at a person clear someone else's name? Beth Twitty did not rob anyone of their child and she did not make anyone disappear. Those who have been accused of taking her child are free and that is more than we can say for Natalee Holloway who is probably dead. For those of you who can't find it in your heart to join Beth than at least don't beat her. The woman has been injured enough. No matter who harmed their child or made her disappear, Beth and Dave have suffered a horrible loss and at the very least they deserve compassion and empathy. As I stated in the beginning of this article, I have nothing new to add to the facts of this case and as a result of that I no longer blog about it on a regular basis. That would be pretentious and self aggrandizing. I did want to add one more article to my body of work because I am hoping that people will step back and look at what has transpired here and by doing that they will see who the real victims are and cease in their relentless attempts to victimize them over and over again. Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
