June 11, 2006 “For he is the living God, and steadfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.” Daniel 6:26 There are few Prophets who went through trials similar to those of Daniel. Daniel was a true prophet of the one God of Heaven. He was accepted above all those who placed themselves as his equals in speaking to the King of Babylon about his visions and his fears. We know Daniel was the true prophet of the one God because his words came to pass in the future history of Babylon and of mankind. The jealousy displayed by the king’s other seers was certainly a foreshadowing of what the Messiah faced before the Pharisees and Sadducees of First Century mentality. Yet, Daniel, like Jesus, knew the true God of heaven and had that special relationship that enabled them each to face the greater trials and survive. These days the trials aren’t as oppressive for some. There are Christians in the world who face death and dominion by communist or religiously radical governments. These governments are known and natural men do little to ease the persecution of God’s chosen. In many societies it is the followers of the true God who are placed before the lions because the message being carried is considered abhorrent. The message of the true God is abhorrent. Those who have allowed sin to infect their minds and actions find no solace in a message of love that rejects sin. It is true that religion takes such scriptures and bends the rules of God’s law to place even more restriction on lives that should be experiencing liberty and freedom. Rebellion is largely a result of men getting in the way, trying to improve upon what is known to be a “perfect” law. God keeps no secrets and withholds no gifts. The true God of Heaven is sovereign. “…his dominion shall be even unto the end.” It will not matter how many false deities were created. It will not matter which humanistic philosophies dominated natural and carnal thought. It will not matter what the psychologists say, or the doctrinal religionists, or the morally dualistic, or the secularist or the religious radical. Each of these will come before the throne of God and will be judged on the one very simple question all men are required to answer within themselves. All men will have to explain what they did about their knowledge of the Messiah. We know what the Jews did in the days of Jesus. We know the thoughts of the Pharisees and we saw, from the time of Jesus what other societies each did with the question of the Christ. This question has burned men throughout history because the explanation has always been present to be understood. There are no excuses and there need be no more explanations. God has readily and fully explained himself. God’s “…kingdom will not be destroyed…” because it can not be destroyed. What God has formulated he also sustains. The scriptures tell us affirmatively that God is the “first and last” and the “beginning and ending”. He established his kingdom to be an eternal statement of existence and his plan was always to share his kingdom with beings he could love and that would return love to him. Our God is a “living” God. He is “steadfast” for his own “forever”. There are few other religions that can point to a concrete history of faith from its foundation and see the significance of the words of their prophets and their savior. The words of the prophets pointed men in the direction of God and his gift of salvation to men. The Savior pointed men in the direction His Father who made provision for the atonement of all the sin that stood to destroy the relationship between God and his creation. Where natural men failed Jesus succeeded.
