June 1, 2006 A young coed from Clemson University was strangled, two victims in another town were brutally beaten, tortured, raped and killed by a couple of perverts (one being a female). An attorney was kidnapped this morning in Birmingham, Alabama. She was rescued and her captor is behind bars tonight. The families of the murdered women have their loved ones and will be able to bury them and say a proper goodbye. The police in Birmingham are being praised for excellent police work in capturing the kidnapping suspect. On Aruba, Natalee Holloway is nowhere to be found. No one could accuse the police there of being excellent..not ever. I'm not even sure that they are real police. I was almost sure that I recognized one of them from The Jerry Springer Show. The Prosecutor is probably getting ready to wrap up the case so that they can pay Paulus van der Sloot for his inconvenience and Joran van der Sloot continues to enjoy his freedom. The Kalpoe brothers are quietly going about their business and I can almost hear the steel drums in the warm night air as the Islanders celebrate yet another night in paradise. I wonder how many tourists are visiting Aruba? I wonder if they look over their shoulders to see if any predators might be nearby. I wonder how many of them think about the girl who had such a nice vacation a year ago but failed to ever come home. I wonder if there are any more posters lying around with pictures of the young Mountain Brook High School Student....her name is Natalee Holloway and she was planning to go to college and become a doctor. In her room, at home, hang two pretty dresses that she was planning to wear to rush some sororities and a calendar with dates marked all the way through August, 2006. There are pictures from The Wizard of Oz hanging on her wall, reminding one of how short a time has passed since she was a small child. Her mother looks through her still unpacked suitcase and sees what is left of her daughter's trip to Aruba last May. Clothing, a passport, a cell phone...the usual remnants of a trip that has come to an end. But it never came to an end where Natalee Holloway is concerned because she simply vanished into the night. I wonder if somewhere some other girl is listening to the beat of the steel drums and thinking about having a drink at Carlos & Charlie's? Will she see a cute Dutch boy and decide to go off with him for a last night of fun in Paradise? Will he decide to leave her on the beach or somewhere else and then lie about it? Will he forget that she existed and refer to her as "the girl", as if she never had a real name? Will the unknown predator in a remote sketch approach her?
