July 25, 2006 Outside of the western countries little value is placed upon the sanctity of human life, especially in time of war. No Geneva conventions have ever been formulated, no code of conduct regarding the treatment of prisoners of war, within recent history in fact no rules of warfare have ever been enacted outside of the US, the European, and other western oriented counties. Hezbollah rains down rockets upon northern Israel with impunity. The occupation of the Lebanese territory up to the Litani river is now under way, the maximum range of the rockets aimed at Israel. The age-old eastern tactic regarding playing upon the western value for human life again rears its ugly head. Rocket launchers are placed among the civilian population guaranteeing the maximum loss of life if attacked. Each loss of civilian life is reported with a smirk by NPR and in ponderous accusatory tones by the BBC, all part of the strategy of Hezbollah imitating the terror groups that roamed Europe during the cold war. How can one ensure the safety of ones borders without falling prey to these tactics? In the case of Israel she is dammed if she does and dammed is she doesn’t. Although thoroughly westernized regarding the correct conventional and political means of conducting war she seems rather amateurish regarding the handling of the Hezbollah defamation campaign. The hint of a new tactic is in the horizon. It has been reported that Israel would be amenable to a buffer force on its northern border composed of NATO troops. During their previous incursion into Lebanon the IDF walked right through UN lines. Why the disdain for the UN? Well the answer seems to be that the UN is living in the feel good dream world of new age media generated fantasy where the right attitude will surely permeate the air, eventually seeping into the consciousness of all, who would, upon seeing the good intentions of the UN, immediately lay down arms and come to the peace table. In Iraq the UN HQ was bombed, the administration believing that there was no need for security as they were loved by all of mankind (outside of the west). In Sierra Leone Pakistani UN troops had to be rescued by a non-UN contingent of the British army. The reason the UN fielded such an inadequate force is a mystery, unless they again believed that the racial component of the force would counteract the deficiency. NATO would be an ideal buffer force. They are well versed in the methods of the terror groups as they gained considerable experience during the cold war. They are composed of forces that have great military skills and, most importantly, would not raise the ire of the Lebanese population as they would be more able to identify with the Europeans of the same intellectual bent. Will we see a permanent European military presence in Lebonon. If they are welcomed by Lebonon it would be an ideal spot to keep tabs upon terror groups. The next round in the great game is being played out. Al Queda is losing its war of terror. Its backers Iran and Syria in order to take the spot light off the formers weapons programs, and the latter’s logistics support for Al Queda have turned their proxy Hezbollah upon Israel. Things may now play out in ways they did not foresee as the new warfare based the influencing of the western media plays out. ------------ About the author: Read Mike Haran's essays on history at http://www.geocities.com/manzikertca/ Email: manzikertca@yahoo.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
