July 25, 2006 It's been awhile but once again I managed to infiltrate another meetingh, I have to admit that seeing so many people in Che Guevera shirts and reading Mao's little Red Book made me a little uncomfortable, but I had a job to do, so I pressed ahead. Some old man was the first speaker. " It is time that we make our voices heard. We must put an end to American imperialism, Colonialism," blah blah blah. He droned on for a while along this line. Blasting the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as cruel and unnecessary. "and with all this violence the President won't restrain his Israeli puppets, because of the neocons trying to turn this country into a dictatorship, we should be helping the resistance in Lebanon." Now I recognized him. It was Pat Buchanan. I guess he got tired of speaking to empty halls at Paleocon conventions. After his speech he burned an Israeli flag, to the cheers of the audience and marched(or was it goose stepped?) to his seat. The next speaker was, well I couldn't tell. My seat was in the back, he was very boring and droned on forever. He apologized for being late by blaming an Indian gas station attendant. So much for racial diversity and sensitivity. Anyway he declared the war on terror a lost cause and urged immediate withdrawl, to thunderous applause, yet blasted the Bush administration for not ending Israels war against Lebanon. (What do these guys want? Troops in Lebanon?) Next some guy charged onto the stage and grabbed the microphone before he could be stopped. Even at my distance from the stage I recognized this speaker as soon as he opened his mouth. "If the democrats were in charge there would be no war, we and the UN could stop all the fighting because we are the party of peace. Death to Republicans! Yarrgh!" Before he could go on he was dragged off stage, still screaming, as event workers argued with each other. They were unaware that the microphone was still on. "I thought you said you were going to keep him on his medication." "He is on his medication." "How did he get here?" "He snuck off and took a car. He'd been gone a while before we realized he was gone." "Well, lock him in the broom closet until we're done...is this thing still on?" Next some guy who looked very familiar, from where I was sitting, arrived to great applause and hysteria. He rambled about his new movie,about his book Earth in the Balance, and his trgedy in the 2000 election. He got angrier and angrier with each word until his face was a red as Michael Moores after he has walked from his couch to his fridge. (and they say conservatives are angry white guys) I wasn't surprised by his tone so much as I was by the fact that he was still alive. He recieved very entusiastic applause(I don't know why, he didn't say anything. But then I guess these people didn't come to hear anything new or interesting) Nancy Pelosi was next, I couldn't really hear what she was saying, the snores of the crowd were drowning her out. But I could guess, her speeches never change.
