Thoughts Like Frantic Squirrels Scrambling

1) If Iraq and Iran and North Korea were the Axis of Evil, then Pelosi and Reid and Kerry and Kennedy are the Axis of Lunacy.

2) If peace treaties and cease fires produced peace, then the Middle East would be the most peaceful place on Earth.

3) If Hezbollah has been preparing for this war, digging deep bunkers for six years, and Israel has been planning for this war for one year, doesn't that tell you who started it?

4) One of the greatest novels of science fiction by the greatest sci-fi novelist of all time, Robert A. Heinlein, was "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress." In this novel, a main character is a computer who has become sentient and is the primary planner of a revolution on the Moon. One of his tasks, of course, was continually calculating the chances of success of the revolution. A very illustrative passage goes as follows. "Mike," the computer, is talking to Manuel, his best buddy and a chief conspirator in the revolution:

"That's barbaric. And unfair."

"Mike, almost everything is unfair. What can't be cured..."

"Must be endured. That's a funny-once, Man."

"Sorry, let's chyange it: What can't be cured, should be tossed out and something better put in. Which we'll do. What chances (for success of the revolution) last time you calculated?"

"Approximately one in nine, Man."

"Getting worse!"

"Man, they'll get worse for months. We haven't reached the crisis yet."

The current war against the Muslim extremist terrorists hasn't reached a crisis yet. The chances for success change all the time. Perhaps some decision, such as the Israeli response to Hezbollah, may actually worsen the odds--and yet may be absolutely necessary! One doesn't begin from a set position and work unfalteringly toward a successful conclusion in such situations. One makes many decisions, some easy, some difficult, some miniscule, some quite bold, and the chances of success may rise and fall and rise again if one is careful and wise and lucky.

Our War of Independence was a risky endeavor, unsure from the beginning, unlikely of success almost until the end. The Yorktown Battlefield, where Washington defeated Cornwallis, is within a short jog of my doorstep. Until that battle was fought and won, we had suffered many defeats. Do Americans still have the patience and the persistence? If not, the terrorists may win. I blame television, for creating a people with a short attention span who expect all problems to be solved within 60 minutes minus commercial time.

5) Does the dog catcher make deals with rabid dogs?

6) Democrats (and liberals in all countries and parties) have great difficulty in labeling an evil person "evil." Unless that "evil person" happens to be a conservative, especially George W. Bush. Terrorists are just misunderstood or justifiably angry about something to liberals, but George W. Bush is truly evil! Clear evidence of deranged minds.

7) Quiz: You and your wife return home from a party. You open your door and enter the living room and find a rapist in the process of attacking your 12-yr-old daughter. Your response is:

a) Take out your gun and order him to stop, and if he doesn't you shoot him.

b) Call a lawyer to write a contract wherein the rapist agrees to stop raping your daughter and leave the house at once.

c) Call a psychiatrist to help the rapist uncover the cause of his behavior.

The correct answer is A. But after taking out your gun and driving the burglar out of the house, your wife berates you for possessing such a dangerous weapon and endangering your daughter and reports you to the police since your permit has expired. What do you do first?

a) File for divorce.

b) Hire a psychiatrist for your wife.

c) Resolve never to marry a liberal again.

d) Open a bottle of scotch.

e) Resolve never to vote for a Democrat.

8) Diplomacy is a dangerous weapon in the hands of liberals. We need to get a Diplomatic Brady Bill enacted which would require a 20 year waiting period before any Democrat could acquire a diplomacy bomb and be loosed upon the world.
