July 13, 2006 I assume that most of you are familiar with the plot line for "The Stepford Wives" movie. If not, I will present a short summary of what that movie was about in order to outline the premises I wish to draw here with the Bush Administration. Sit back and enjoy! In the movie, the women lived in a small town named Stepford, CT.. They came together from a variety of backgrounds. However, the one thing they all shared was that they were perfect. They knitted, cooked, cleaned, gardened, exercised, and dressed immaculately. They were all supposed to be blissfully and strangely happy, but they were doomed. President Bush and his entire Administration feel that they are also perfect and above reproach in all of their actions and decisions. I guess laws were, and are, created for all except them. You see theirs is an exclusionary society in which there exists them and us. They put on their happy faces, ply the people of the United States and the world with constant lies, outright fabrication, and complete deception. They use whatever is convenient at the time to bolster their positions. They invent a war with Iraq that has come close to breaking and bankrupting the United States, placed many innocent men and women in harms way, and in general made the world a much less peaceful place. First, this Administration used the WMD angle, based entirely on fabrication of facts, for attacking Iraq. Next, it was that Iraq was somehow responsible for the actions on 9/11. Then, when that well proved to be dry they clung to the next thought that popped into their heads, remove an evil dictator and spread democracy to the people of Iraq. Bush boldly stated that Iraq was part of the "axis of evil". However, he also added North Korea and Iran to his "axis of evil" without considering the repercussions of such words. Each day the news reports more atrocities and injustices in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the globe. The atmosphere in Israel has heated up with their neighboring countries. North Korea and Iran have or will be testing missiles much to the chagrin of the Bush Administration and the rest of the world. Yet, if you hear the Bush Administrations litany they are creating a better world for all. They (The Stepford Administration) are spending Trillions of dollars each year in wars that we can never win. They are lighting more fires than one can ever hope to put out. I ask what drugs are they taking that can so cloud their judgment that they honestly believe they have accomplished great things? Perhaps they need to dole them out to the people so we can all become their Stepford followers and quit questioning their actions? Has anything they (The Stepford Administration) did bode well for the United States or the rest of the world? I say absolutely NOT. They have lost all credibility for us with our allies and would be allies. They have severed relationships that the Clinton Administration worked hard to bolster. They have sullied and ruined our reputation around the globe. Yet, they cling to their visions and delusions of their own perfection and the perfection of all they set forth to do. They are a dark and dangerous force. One that needs to be stopped before we fall haplessly into WW III and the ruination of the world as we know it now. Make peace not war! Therefore, I urge you to write or call your local or state congress people and/or state representatives and beg them to rush into impeachment proceedings for President Bush and his entire Administration at the earliest possible point. ------------ About the author: Michelle Malsbury was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois.
