July 11, 2006 Like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum to get some attention, North Korea is making sure that all eyes are on them. Sure its seven missile tests were all failures, but now all eyes are on Pyongyang. Many in this country are advocating one on one talks with the worlds las Stalinist dictatorship, Japan is threatening a pre emptive strike(most of the missiles were headed in their direction), Russia and China are just fine with Kim Jong Il's gulag (it probably makes Putin pine for the good ol' days when he was in the KGB and Gulags were all the rage). North Korea wants attention. It wants a return to the sweetheart deal they got in 1994 where we paid them off not to develope nuclear technology, they happily took the payoff and went on making nukes anyway. They see the world desperately offering the pyschopaths in Iran concessions and they want in. And to make sure the world gets the point they have taken saber rattling to new extremes. North Koreas is promising to destroy anyone who interferes with their missile tests. Fine. But then, using that argument, they have no room to object if we balance things out. The only countries in the far east that have nuclear weapons are China and North Korea, both communist dictatorships. Let's even things out. Let's give Japan and South Korea nuclear weapons and missile defense technology. If North Koreas two favorits targets suddenly had the ability to defend themselves North Korea might stop splashing missiles into the sea of Japan, it might also give us the room to take our troops out of Okinawa and South Korea. After all as free and democratic countries it is not very likely that they will test fire missiles and threaten to destroy those around them. Giving them nuclear missiles and missile defense will put the squeeze on North Korea, and it might even get China to stop plotting to take over the far east. But there should also be a clear message from the U.S. Any attempts to start a war will not go unpunished. North Korea is acting up because it is feeling the pressure, we need to keep it that way. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
