What The Bible Doesn't Have To Say

By Skip Toomaloo

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10)

In the final judgment, everyone who died outside of faith will stand before the White Throne of God. In the judgment, death, hell and Hades will surrender all those who died outside of faith. They will be judged on their works and since works do not save anyone, they will all be sent into the “second death”, fully and eternally separated from the Godhead.

Yet, every tongue on that day will speak of Jesus as Lord.

There are those who are concerned about things that are not addressed in scripture while ignoring the many things that are spoken of. Some would say that the bible is lacking because it does not involve certain scientific studies or address the differing psychologies of man.

In a black and white world (good/bad, left/right, up/down) there is one right and one wrong. This is what scripture speaks of.

Jesus always spoke of the one path to heaven while warning of the many paths of unrighteousness to spiritual separation (hell). Nothing he said is neither a mystery, nor is anything he said needing of any great commentary or investigation. Jesus was very plain spoken.

He never said a man “should” be “born anew”. He said he “must” be “born anew”. There is a difference. “Should” implies there is some wiggle-room; that there may be some other way to please God and gain heaven. “Must” allows no loophole, but is a certain, flat statement of testimony, completely understandable by one willing to listen.

The Scriptures deal in the spiritual. You will not read of theory but of fact. It is a fact that God Created the Heaven and the Earth. It is a simple statement, simply stated and understandable to those who “have ears to hear”.

Those who prefer to remain trapped in the physical, where everything must be seen to be appreciated and believed give no credence to those who were the actual eyewitnesses to the miracles of Jesus and his bodily resurrection. Some would prefer to see Jesus crucified again so they personally could witness another resurrection. Sadly, if that were to happen tomorrow the unfaithful would be out in force to declare Jesus a charlatan and a liar and a user of parlor tricks and play-acting. There is nothing new under the sun.

Man is what man is and God allows that. Man is a reasoning entity. Some see the truths of the spiritual and have responded with faith. They now have a relationship that enables them to fully appreciate what life is and what eternal existence can consist of.

Others see only in present tense. The here-and-now is the only important thing. They might plan for the future, but the scriptures talk of those who planned for their physical futures at the expense of their spiritual eternity and how they managed to end up with an eternal nothing to show for their physical efforts.

A long time ago two men approached God. One approached God with the works of his hands. He was proud of what he had accomplished and he wanted God to grant him grace depending upon what he did. He refused to approach God on God’s terms. The other man approached God with a thankful heart and the blood of a spotless offering; recognizing that God should always be worshipped for His works on behalf of man. It is the heart of thanksgiving, not that of pride that receives the blessings from God.

The Scriptures do not have to talk of the physical. The Scriptures must speak of the spiritual because nothing else so gives us the mind of God or the reality of eternal existence. To live in the physical while ignoring the spiritual may give comfort to the unfaithful for their short life span on earth, but ignoring the spiritual will only find them shame in that final judgment.

It is enough to know that the Lord still works in the lives of the living to bring more people into life. We who know God can see his grace affecting hearts and souls every day. The truths contained in the scriptures are not difficult to fathom and apply to daily living. These same truths will forever apply to all who have reached that level of faith unto eternal salvation.
