Everything's Coming Up Pearls!

By Kaycee Nilson
July 7, 2006

I had a three-hour ordeal trying on wedding dresses. Dresses in organza, silk, satin, and every material imaginable. But in the end, it was David’s Bridal model 003A that won my heart.

Luckily I had barrettes in my purse I had pinned my hair up. Then I took my hair down. My opinion at this point is to have my hair up.

But I do have bad news; my allergies have given me a horrible ear infection. It’s to the point of were I have to take Amoxicillin and ear drops in my right ear. But trying on the beautiful gowns made me feel like I was a princess. Almost like a fairy princess.

Most dresses were in Ivory, Ivory suits me best and it’s the softest shade. The pure white ones made me look washed out. They made my red hair look even redder, but my skin tone was just as pale as a sheet.

The last dress I put on, made me look and feel like a movie star out of the 30’s or 40’s. It was covered in pearls and had a chiffon train that started at the neck and trailed out in a cathedral length. It was fitted and hugged me like a glove. Ivory gloves and an ivory veil, complete with ivory shoes. I looked like I just stepped out of the pages of a glamour magazine.

Greg and my sons just couldn’t believe it was I standing there before them. My four-year-old kept saying “Mom is that you?” And my ten-year-old whistled. My personal assistant, Greg, kept saying that he liked the first dress I tried on. But I couldn’t see spending close to $1,000 for a dress I would wear once when I could spend 1/3 that amount for a dress that I could wear again.

The train is detachable. So I could wear the dress to a fancy party or to the opera.

I even saw the bridesmaids’ dresses and I have to say that the girls made good choices. They have better choices than what I would have picked out. Even the color scheme is going to be perfect. The Co-Matrons of Honor in one color, the Maid Of Honor in another color, My daughter in another color, and the bridesmaids in a complete other color. But blended together, the colors harmonize. Even the dresses are a touch different from each other signifying the role that the girls have in the line-up.

This is going to be the prettiest wedding I have ever had. I think it’s because it’s going to be fun, funky, totally us. Of course, if it was to me, I’d be ordering orange and black fire suits with the names of the people on the back to imitate the crew of Tony Stewart, but a girl can’t have it all, or can she?

How about a wedding in Las Vegas with a Tony Stewart Impersonator and then we drive away on go-karts?

HA HA HA HA!
