July 1, 2006 Today Mary Winkler appeared in court to enter a plea in the shooting of her husband. If you aren't familiar with the case I will state for the record that Mary was the Preacher's wife who shot and killed her husband and than took off with their children only to be captured the next day. There has been a lot of guessing as to why Mary shot the Preacher and today we have some answers. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,201755,00.html There is a reference in the article to a Nigerian scam where you send someone a "good" check and receive a "bad" check in return. In other words, you threw good money after bad. This leads me to the fact that I get at least five emails a day from these so-called Nigerian individuals telling me that there is a lot of money waiting for me to collect. They know your full name and even some personal information about you so many people get hooked and believe that it is indeed some long lost relative who's money is sitting there waiting for you to retrieve it. It's hard to believe that people would fall for this ruse but people do and many lose their life's savings to these con artists. Many of these people are among the elderly or the gullible and once the money is gone the person is wiped out with no hope of getting it back. I'm not really sure why Mary Winkler fell for this but she obviously did and it caused problems between her and her husband. I don't believe there is ever a good and justifiable reason for killing someone unless you are defending your home and family but as we all know from watching the news and reading our newspapers, it happens every single day. Mary has children who are now fatherless and at least temporarily, motherless, and they are the true victims here. Adults make decisions and we have to live or die with the consequences but children are innocent bystanders and I feel the most empathy for them. I'm sure that much more will come out concerning Mary Winkler and her husband and eventually justice will be served in some manner. In the meantime I am against her getting released on bail. To shoot someone in the back in cold blood over an argument about money and then to flee is not an offense that deserves bail and freedom while awaiting trial in my opinion. Some may have a different view of this and I understand why that would be the case. Maybe she was mentally ill, maybe he bullied her, maybe she lost control....there are still a lot of maybes here but for now and after what I read after her court appearance, I do not see a reason for her release into society after what she did. The Preacher can't enjoy any freedom and he can't get a trial. He will never see his children or his family again and as a result of that and because I do NOT believe that Mary Winkler shot her husband in self-defense I would like to see her kept behind bars until a jury of her peers decides her fate and hears all of the evidence. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling. https://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=27335 Email: writers2@cox.net Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
