Jan. 17, 2006 Who needs to go invade a Middle Eastern country to control the second-largest oil reserves in the world? Look no further than the Great White North--Canada! Yes, Canada. Unless you've had your head in the sand, Canada's oil sands are slated to yield over 175 BILLION barrels (yes, Dorothy, that's nine zeroes after the five), making Canada second only to Saudi Arabia for reserve yield. And that has the environmentalists sqawking. Never mind that the oil sands are undeveloped tracts of land, where flora and fauna are smart enough to know not to live there, since there's nothing there to subsist on except, wait, oil and sand. But what's a country to do, when predictions price oil at $100 a barrel by 2007? What does a rich Canadian look like? It's funny, 'cause the further north I've gone, it seems as if I've travelled further south. I'm from Virginia, and before you start screamin' that Virginia ain't the South, let me remind you, gentle reader, that the Confederate capital was Richmond. I digress. In my hometown, your wealth was measured by your truck. The bigger your bank account, the bigger the truck. It seems to be the same here. Hummers and Hemis and half-tons, oh my! So, get ready, GM or Dodge or (I'm in Canada, I can say it) Honda. Start producing those huge highway hogs, 'cause the Canadians are coming, and they've got money. Lots of it. 175 billion barrels at $100 a barrel...well, you do the math. ##30## ------------ About the author: After barely surviving the 2004 presidential election massacre, Chuck Tyler excaped north to Canada, where he is a copywriter/editor for OurSportsCentral.com.
