Some Things I've Been Wondering About Lately

By Judy Ramsook
Jan. 17, 2006

Every now and again there are things some of us wonder about. Especially being the curious humans that we are. Some of those things we wonder about don’t have to be anything that is too significant or too minute for that matter. Lately, there have been a few things I have been wondering about, they are as follows:

I wonder if best selling authors ever get writers’ block. If they do, I wonder what sort of remedy they seek in order to overcome it. You know, one minute you’re excitedly writing that story, article or essay when you come across what may seem like endless moments of nothing.

No ideas, no more words in relation to what you are writing, not even a clue as to where you want to take the piece next. Do you become frustrated or do you try to walk it off, watch a movie or relax hoping that idea will come to you? Some people have been known to have serious cases of writers’ block that can last for months or years.

I wonder in what state the world would be in right now if people like Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X had not come along. Would we all be living in some segregated world in which much more turmoil and unrest is taking place more than ever before? Would some one else have come along instead and tried to make a difference?

What if Al Gore were president instead of George W. Bush? Would American and its allies’ soldiers be in Iraq right now? Would so many soldiers’ lives have been lost? Would Cindy Sheehan and many other parents be so distraught over losing their sons and daughters to the war?

What if we were in a world in which there was no form of education? No pre schools, no elementary, middle, high schools or colleges? Would some one have eventually come along with an alternative so kids and teens between the ages of five and eighteen could have something to do with all that free time?

Some people have been complaining that kids who play video games are prone to act violently, or become tempted to transfer the same kind of violent actions they see on the video games onto some real life situation. Does that also mean that the persons who played the Mario Bros. games are supposed to think their body size will increase considerably upon consuming a mushroom or that picking a flower would give them instant fire power? Whatever happened to being able to separate reality from fantasy?

The internet. What if it had not been invented at all? Would we all who use the service, be able to do all the things we do online such as shop, post articles, do research for information and send and receive email or instant message some one?

I do know one thing; if not for the internet, I would not be able to post this article on the UK site, because if there is no internet, there would be no UK site either. We should be grateful for the internet. It is here, and I hope it will stay for as long as mankind is around.
