Some Suggestions For A Better 2006

By Judy Ramsook
Jan. 12, 2006

With the beginning of each year some persons say they will do certain things to improve their lives. Be it quit a bad habit or work towards getting that on the job promotion. It will make you and the world around you a more pleasant place to be and as such thoughts pervade one’s mind, he or she may have some suggestions for a better 2006. Here are some of those suggestions.

You have a daughter who wants to celebrate her high school graduation on some island paradise. Talk to her all you can about life and precautions she should take if she finds herself in a somewhat difficult situation while on that trip.

She might become a little annoyed at times, but talk to her every chance you get . It might prove beneficial in the long run and might even prevent another Natalie Holloway type situation from occurring.

You are days away from your wedding and are suddenly having second thoughts about your fiance. Instead of running off to another state without telling anyone anything of your departure and your reason for some much needed thinking time, tell some one something. Better yet, try to talk to your fiance about your second thoughts, so another Jennifer Wilbanks situation does not occur.

Hurricane season. The wrath of Katrina has come and gone, but this is a new year. Too much has been said about this matter already, but city and state leaders should have a well organised evacuation and detailed plan ready. Especially for those individuals who are disabled and lack the means to afford their own transportation.

Sometimes when we want to improve certain aspects of anything, we need to take a look back at what went wrong the first time in order to set things right the second time. The second time difficult situations arise, for certain dangers can be prevented. Of course every situation is different and so are the persons involved in it, but it is never too late to take some precautions, just in case.

No one has all the answers to everything and to each problem, but there is one thing you have in your favour. Unity. The ability to come together in time of need and help out your fellow man the best you can.

Say you happen to be on a trip with other high school classmates celebrating your graduation. You happen to spot another fellow calssmate who seems a little disturbed about something. Instead of walking away, and thinking nothing of it, try to be empathetic and lend an ear to your classmate or friend. The time you spend doing this might do a world of good in the long run.

We can’t be there all the time for those we care about, but we can show we care, for all we have is each other. Be there when you can, take some time from your busy life to show some concern and come together to help your fellow man in time of need. It will all make for a better 2006.
