![]() By Argile Stox Jan. 7, 2006 Well, I had a Stent placed in one of the arteries of my heart. My cardiologist found that I did not need the proposed three Stents, only one. One thing I must remember – and I have advised Tracy to keep in mind, MRI’s are out of the question. After my release from Rapid City Regional Hospital, South Dakota – I read through the literature that was provided by the manufacturer of the Stent. In a worse case scenario - the Stent could heat up and or move within the artery of the heart during a MRI. I must get a “medical alert bracelet” to indicate my allergies and the Stent. Thinking back to when I was a kid (some forty years ago), having a heart attack and or heart surgery was a nail-biting experience for my relatives and friends, whenever it was done on an individual. The heart (you only get one) is the main pump. When that pump is not functioning properly or goes on the Fritz, it is cause for extreme concern. However, with the technological advances in cardiac care over the last fifty years (at least in my case) – surviving a heart attack and having corrective surgery to implant a Stent – is still a nail-biter; yet, the odds of survivability have been greatly improved. I had the Stent implanted at eight-thirty in the morning, and was discharged at about nine-thirty in the evening – the same day. The nurses and the care they gave me while I was in the cardiac ward, was great! I was fortunate to be under the care of nurses who listened to the patient and took their job seriously. It appeared to me, that the nurses and all the individuals who attended to me – really enjoyed their work, and were not burned-out. One of the nurses had worked her way up the ladder – for twelve years, and just attained her RN status. She checked and double-checked everything. Before Tracy & I left the hospital, we went down to the gift store and purchased a small bear, which had a large red heart on its chest – which announced: “My favorite Nurse!” We presented it to the nurse before we departed. She was surprised by this small token of our appreciation, and thanked us. I have been home for about two days – and every part of my body hurts. Even my hair hurts! – LOL! My body is completely exhausted from all of the abuse that it has been through over the past few months. I received a follow-up call from the hospital today, and I told the cardiac nurse of my lack of energy, the buzzing in my head, and the healing pains my body was going through. She stated that it will take a while until my body reacts and adjusts to the healing process. I also left a message on my cardiologist’s voice-mail, thanking him – and all the individuals connected with his practice for the success of the procedures, and great care. I have a follow-up appointment in three weeks. I am indeed very blessed to be in Rapid City, South Dakota – which has a great hospital and all the individuals who are associated with it. I am also very blessed to have Tracy Sutterer in my life. She stood by me during this entire episode - without muttering one complaint. She even had sympathy chest pains! Tracy is a wonderful, loving, sincere, loyal woman. I am truly grateful to Tracy and her family for the love, support, and prayers during this “Oh, My God!” experience. Now, all I have to do is relax, heal, and get my strength back in order to tackle some annoying situations which were carried over from 2005. It will take a while until my body and mind can gather enough steam to pay full attention to the tasks which are begging to be resolved. However, I will get to them – and finally close them out. Just a side note… I have been writing a short story in my brain for the past eight months. I am very close to finally writing it. I just have to get my mind off the inner workings of my body and concentrate on writing, for a change – LOL! ------------ Email Argile Stox: argilestox@gmail.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com and are not allowed to be posted on other websites.
