The Amazing Lodi And His Idea Of A Better Life

By Bob D. Caterino
Jan. 5, 2006

This is the story of Lodi Tirips. Lodi is many things, to many people but almost never does he mean the same thing to any one individual. Lodi was born many years ago in the old country when everyone was older. He is never seen for he never leaves his home for he is agoraphobic. Many seek him out and but when they find him he moves to another location. Lodi has been seen in so many places but he keeps finding other places to run to. He avoids being seen.

Lodi has moved so many times that he has gotten the reputation of actually being everywhere and amazingly enough at the same time. The people that tell the tale of actually talking to him have been called crazy. Lodi has become a legend over the years and has become a celebrity of sorts. Lodi helps people and doesn't even know that he does.

One day Lodi was in his workshop. Oh, did I fail to mention that Lodi was an amateur inventor, immature investor, armature molester or was that a mature solicitor; what ever he was he was great at it.

His life long work consisted of a contained simulated life force. All things were self sufficient in this naturally controlled milieu. It had green plants and trees to keep the air clean. It had animals and insects that thrived to survive in a world very much as we know it. The one thing he couldn't do was protect his living co-op from creating acts of war. The ant populations although minuscule in size were very aggressive in defending what was theirs and attacked anything in their path. All Lodi could do is study and watch his miniature world to see what would happen next.

Lodi made this his life's work. Although never getting paid for this creation, many would make lots of cash, dinero, cabbage, green or dead presidents in his name but he would never reap the rewards. His reward would be, knowing he created such a place and needed nothing more then a few praises here and there to sustain his dignity. His goal was a simple one. Lodi wanted to see just how long this simulated world would last before its unfortunate demise due to self destruction. As a whole it seemed to be doing well but most of the residences were eating up most of the greenery and that left for others to die out or come to their annihilation.

Lodi had other projects that were kept very secretive but these experiments were doing well, much better then the environment he created.

One day Lodi sent his only son to the store for some supplies he needed. O news reporter knew he was someone important but couldn't put his finger on it. “Are you someone” the reporter asked? The son of Lodi told him being proud of his father. The reporter did a story on him letting everyone know about the son of Lodi. Soon after the curiosity seekers would try and follow the son of Lodi to find out as much as they could about his father. Like any son he proudly told many tales of his dad but the public wasn't buying it anymore. The one thing about human nature is that if you can't get to the top man then go for the next best thing. Another thing about human nature is that the green eyed monster we call jealousy sometimes gets the better of us. This son of Lodi was hunted by a naysayer and killed. Lodi let his works go down the tubes after his son's death. He just didn't care anymore. He couldn't understand why. He locked the door to his artificial environment and sat in his easy chair and mourned the death of his son for many years.

One day many years later he unlocked that door because he wanted to find a book he has read once upon a time so long ago. To his amazement, those so many years later, his small world would still be up and running. Oh, some parts of it were doing fine but others were either desolate or barren. Oh he tinkered once in a while but his heart was not in it anymore.

One day a knock wrapping at Lodi's door. He answered it and there was a small boy standing there. He smiled and said “You remind me of my own boy.” He took him inside and this inquiring mind listened to Lodi's tales in wonderment. When this small person asked why the man killed his son Lodi just said “Well, he didn't know what he was doing.” The boy, when not visiting Lodi would tell everyone he knew and some he didn't know about Lodi. Some listened while others scoffed at the boy. This boy wouldn't care about the one's that didn't care because he knew he had a true friend in Lodi and that was all that mattered.

Many wrote books about Lodi, some true and some mocking his work. Lodi never worried about that, he just kept to himself.

He eventually returned to his small world and focused on the thriving parts of it and remodeled the dead parts, the parts that were not able to prosper. After some time he thought he would try doing something different. He focused on the dying parts of his simulation and left the flourishing parts of it alone. He decided that the needy one's needed his attention more then the better. His work was a success but he let that speak for itself. If some choose to look at it for what it was then so be it. He just didn't care anymore. He was in it from the beginning for his own enjoyment and nothing more.
