Jan. 4, 2006 Greenville, South Carolina is a beautiful place to live. I love the wooded areas as well as the populace ones. I have only been here for a few years but what I am seeing does not please me. Like many places on the good earth the land is dwindling fast in the name of progress. In other parts of the world there is control. If someone needs to cut down trees, they have to go through the appropriate channels. In Greenville it seems just the opposite. The trees are going down in the name of advancement faster then you can say environmentalists. Greenville wants to be known as “Little New York” but for what cost. New York has no trees except for the one in Brooklyn. Trees help the pollution problem but when the trees are gone then it will be too late. Where are the environmentalists now? I see the mountains being populated with many expensive homes. I always in my heart thought the mountains should be owned by no man. A mountain is one of Gods treasures for people to enjoy, not live in. Now when you look up at the mountains you see bald spots where trees once thrived and homes used as decoration. Now the rich have what they want and the poor have a landscaping nightmare to look at. The rich can do as they please and the poor have to try to survive. What was once a wonderment of green is now a horror of big city traffic and unsightliness. When will mankind learn? We were put here on this great earth to live in paradise but we now live in paradox. By disturbing nature you upset the balance of life. Trees help us breathe and who the heck need that. Breathing is not profitable so let’s eliminate it. Well my friends remember this. If we can’t breathe we die. Think before you cut.
