West Virginia In The Rear View Mirror...It's Not My Medicine Wheel!!!

By Bonijean Isaacs

NOT QUITE HEAVEN, WEST VIRGINIA, COUNTY ROADS TAKE ME AWAY FROM THE PLACE I DON'T BELONG…………….. It has always been my philosophy to bloom where planted. Seven years ago, when I landed in West Virginia, I had visions of following the footsteps of my eccentric Appalachian Grannies. I would have a raggedy herbal garden. I would harvest the herbs of the land, make essential oils and sell handmade dreamcatchers at the flea market. When we arrived here, I needed to know……… Where are the Liberals,? Where are the Unitarian Universalists at? Where can I buy Crystals? Are there Bohemian Coffee Houses? What about Art Galleries , Live Theaters, and Hiking Trails. Book Stores are an absolute must. In Astrology, the Moon is where one finds grounding and foundation. The Eleventh House is Community. . My Moon is in Cancer in the Eleventh House Community is everything for me. I miss my home and southwest community so much..

I am convinced that West Virginia and I are connected by Karma. Perhaps, I was a civil war spy in a past life. West Virginia doesn't seem to like me at all. My California buddies were far more accepting of my Appalachian traits and fine-tuned intuition than some of the local natives in West Virginia. My herbal garden liked the California climate far more than it does the short growing season in West Virginia. I harvest mullein, and wild chicory instead of sage. I make dreamcatchers from willow. I buy stones and crystals at Caving stores instead of Metaphysical shops. I discovered the Geocaching community and hiking trails. There is a small Unitarian Universalist Group that meets every other month or so. There is a bohemian coffee shop in an Art Gallery and I can order books at Amazon. Still, I want to go home. Home is where my medicine wheel is.

In West Virginia, shortly after my marriage officially went south so did my job. I had to take to task four females associated with my ex-employer. I called these individuals the four hideous horsemen…..Terror, Bewilderment, Frustration, Despair. I made each of the individuals dreamcatchers and visualized the opposite energy going into the dreamcatchers…….Courage, Clarity, Success and Hope. I send each of the hideous horsemen a dreamcatcher. Anonymously of course. A year down the line, I noticed one of the dreamcatchers hanging in Frustration AKA Success's Minivan. I had a good chuckle because she would be surprised if she knew where the dreamcatcher came from.

Another two years down the line, I reported an abusive male supervisor and was terminated from that job. I had to go toe to toe with that ex-employer's lawyer. I found out his game, played it better than him and turned into a can of butt whooping for his dubious client. This time, I don't feel inclined to send the ex-employer dreamcatchers wishing them happiness and good tidings. I would rather send them psychic fleas and chuckle as I see headlines about the corporate scandals they are involved in. Ideally, I would like to listen to news on the radio about the unscrupulous corporation being taking to task by the authorities as I see West Virginia in the rear view mirror while I am driving on the road to someplace else. My friend says, "Come See, El Paso Texas!"

I google searched El Paso, Texas. There is a good sized Unitarian Universalist Fellowship with a Zen Meditation Center and bohemian bookstores with coffee bars. There are a Geocaching community and hiking trails. I will harvest sage instead of willow. I will take the Courage, Clarity, Hope, and Success with me to El Paso. The four hideous horsewomen, psyche fleas, the can of butt whooper and past life karma can all stay in West Virginia If I own West Virginia an amends for being a civil war spy………Fine! I will create a cache called "Ninth Step - Civil War Spy's Apology," hide it for Geocachers to find and call it good. West Forgotten by Santa Virginity may be somebody else's medicine wheel but it's not mine.
