Feb. 26, 2006 I recently read an article that was bittersweet. A four-month-old baby was declared brain dead. The parents of the baby decided to donate his heart. His heart went to a seven-month-old twin that had heart problems, who lived in Los Angeles. The heart transplant was done at the UCLA Medical Center. The baby’s twin suffers from dilated cardiomyopathy, the same disease that the twin that underwent the heart transplant suffered from. Now the family of the twins is praying for a miracle and another heart for the other twin. This story touched me because one life saved another. I am sure that the four-month-old is an angel now. I am both sad and happy for the family in Cincinnati who now know that a piece of their child is saving the life of another. I am an organ donor and I urge each of you to become an organ donor too. Who knows, one day your organs may help save the life of a child, a teenager, or another adult. If in death my organs can save another before my body goes to the University of Tennessee for their “Body Farm” where I may be able to solve a cold case, then my life would mean something. If I’m not famous in life, then I want to mean something in death. I really commend the parents in Cincinnati for thinking of others at the expense of sorrow. The mother of the baby who received the heart wants to meet the parents of the baby that passed away. This story is so heart-warming that I need to finish it now due to tears falling down my face. May God keep in his hands four-month-old Jordan York and may the good Lord keep Nick and Nate Harper and find Nate a heart so he too will receive a heart so he can grow up with his brother. ------------ About the author: Kaycee Nilson has completed her first novel, "Night Falls on Chicago."
