![]() By Judy Ramsook Feb. 25, 2006 Everyday we encounter and overcome little challenges along the road of life. Sometimes though, ther are those moments when some of us who are stuck in a traffic jam on whichever freeway, we wish we had a jetpack or our own private jet to lift us out of our dilemna. Right? Since that seems like a far fetched dream, we usually wait it out like everyone else. Sometimes again, there are a few different situations that can make you ponder certain things. Sometimes when I wish to take a break from reality, and go into the video gaming world of certain games, I wonder about particular things when I am temporarily stuck at a point in the game. Some things I wonder are as follows: If I am playing a Final Fantasy game, and I am making my way into a cave after fighting enemy after enemy, I wonder, where is Samus Aran’s (from the Metroid games) speed booster when you need it. Breaking through some of those walls would make things move along a lot faster. When I am playing a Mario game I wonder, where is Cid’s Airship (from the Final Fantasy games) when you need it. Moving along the Mario video game landscape would go much faster that way as opposed to traversing from one pipe to the next or hoofing it. If I am fighting a difficult Final Fantasy boss, I wonder, how would Mario’s jump ability work here. It might seem quite effective, since he won’t be on the ground the same time the boss decides to attack him. Sometimes when I am playing a Zelda game I wonder, what would Link do if he had use of Cid’s Airship? It might make travelling the Hyrule world a lot smoother as opposed to hoofing it all the way to certain dungeons. One time while in the process of defeating Ganon in Ocarina Of Time, I paused the battle scene and wondered, what would Link do if he had Liu Kang’s (from Mortal Combat) martial arts skills or his animality? Would Ganon feel intimidated then? I wonder how Squall (from Final Fantasy 8) would have felt if he had Samus Aran on his side as opposed to Rinoa. In Final Fantasy III I was surprised at having to follow and defeat such a strong and thought provoking enemy as Kafka. It was a great game though. Of course each game comes with its own set of characters the player becomes accustomed to as you, the player delve deeper and deeper into each game, but sometimes, just sometimes, if hoofing it does not involve the accidental meeting of a character in the game, don’t you wish you had Cid’s Airship if you are playing a different RPG that does not have such a travelling machine? There are a wide variety of video games in the market today, but the ones I have mentioned in this piece are some of the most memorable and addictive ones there are. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
