American Racism

By Michael John McCrae
Feb. 24, 2006

LARRY ELDER: “many Blacks simply despise whites. They assume white bigotry and hostility toward blacks, and feel – against all evidence – that “white racism” remains an intense and formidable obstacle. What nonsense.” (From: The Ten Things You Can’t Say In America)

BRYANT GUMBEL: “The winter games. Count me among those who don't like 'em and won't watch them. In fact, I figure when Thomas Paine said, "These are the times that try men's souls," he must have been talking about the start of another winter Olympics. Because they're so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try, too, by trying not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the winter games look like a GOP convention.” (Recent racist comment.)

AARON MCGRUDER: “Woo-Wee! Looks like I caught me a case of “King Kong” fever! Finally, an interracial love story you can watch with the whole family! I may go and chase me a white woman right now! Just kidding white folks – just kidding!” (Recent “Boondocks” cartoon #1)

AARON MCGRUDER: “King Kong” RACIST?! I say it’s EDUCATIONAL! The message of the movie is that interracial love and interspecies love are the same thing and BESTIALITY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Every black child should see this movie! LET ‘EM LEARN ABOUT CONSEQUECES I SAY.” (Recent “Boondocks” cartoon #2)

Larry Elder’s observation is true. The recent racial output of Bryant Gumbel and Aaron McGruder are only more evidence that racism in America is alive and well and living on the cartoon pages and cable TV stations of America.

It is the likes of such men who keep eyes trained on conservatives who might dare to comment on any part of the racial debate. Rush Limbaugh is still taking heat from comments made about a certain black NFL quarterback being overrated by the general media yet; the insults against blacks by the likes of Julian Bond and Ray Nagin are passed over as valuable input to the American racial debate. True and honest words from conservative blacks are called “tokenism”.

Bryant Gumbel will not watch the Winter Olympics because they are what; too white? Aaron McGruder believes the death of King Kong was predicated upon his love for a white girl? Is that the “consequence” he wants “every black child” to take away from that movie? Yes, I know Bryant Gumbel’s wife is white. Does that exempt him from criticism against his idiotic racial remarks? Yes, I know McGruder is a cartoonist; but he is assuredly a racist cartoonist to be continually playing the race card with his cartoon characters.

There have been many Black Churches recently that have spoken on behalf of a national ban on gay marriage. The left side of that argument is being led by Al Sharpton. Quoting from an article: “Black church urged to back rights of gays”, Mr. Sharpton said: “You cannot talk of civil rights and limit who’s included in the civil movement…He said it is every church’s obligation to help end the “poisoned atmosphere” of acceptance of homosexuals.”

What the Reverend Al has not done is read his Bible. The True Church has no qualms about accepting any homosexual that repents of his sexual immorality and turns to God. That happens every day. This is the argument of the Black Churches who know the true message of Christ. Sin must be turned from. All homosexuals are welcome. What is not welcome is the sin. Homosexual activity is sexually immoral and is not to be tolerated. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. The Reverend Al needs to go back to divinity school.

Civil rights laws apply to all Americans. We all have the exact rights as one another. Those requiring “special” rights above those rights already enacted into law may have their day at the ballot box or the court. Those are rights too. In the realm of separation of church and state however, no church needs to petition for changes to civil law that would usurp or override the moral laws of scripture. Also, no state legislature should be trying to force laws against the clear teachings of religious doctrine. Someone has to wake up here.

Does the desire of any church, black or otherwise, to remain pure from sexual immorality label that church racist? Does any church keeping itself from an essentially political debate deserve a label of “intolerant”?

Finally I need to comment on a half page article from the January 12th “Stars and Stripes” entitled “Two Five raps his cousin 50 Cent for dissing him”. I don’t know why it is important for American soldiers overseas to know that Two Five isn’t getting along with his cousin, but I did find one paragraph interesting. The article is an interview by the AP with Two Five. One question was: “Does 50 Cent give back to his family?”

Two Five replied: “Nah, he don’t give back to his family not one bit. He’s supposed to take care of my grandmother and my grandfather because they took care of him. I don’t think he wants to put that situation out there…”All that money you got you can’t help your family get out of the hood…But you buying your homeboy a hundred thousand dollar chain.”

And that is what I have seen. I see a whole lot of angst pointed at the white community for not doing more for blacks while I see many successful blacks similar in reputation and national stature to 50 Cent doing little themselves for those they say they care about.

Don’t get me wrong. I see many blacks joining the military, going to college, serving in government, police forces and fire departments, yet how many of those great people are we hearing from or about. We hear about the poor, the unfortunate, the undereducated and the unemployed. The American black community is more than that yet the voices in the front row belong to those playing the race cards.

I hope the Black Christian Churches in America continue to reject calls to tolerate sin. I hope Bryant Gumbel and Aaron McGruder wise up to the harm they are causing by perpetuating the evil “white guy” scenarios. I hope Al Sharpton gains an epiphany. But, if all that fails, I’ll just continue wishing happiness to those blacks who have rejected the racist message, realizing that such a message is not the way to personal success.
