Feb. 16, 2006 On one of the news shows, the pundit and pundette were heard commenting on just how marvelously calm and collected and intelligent Saddam Hussein was. Why this was surprising is not immediately evident, as I do not recall anyone ever claiming Saddam was a raving maniac. But then I got to thinking that these news commentators are likely Democrats, as most are, and they have been exposed to leaders who might give them a different opinion of world leaders. Howard Dean has been yee-hahhing and ranting and raving irrationally, spouting blatant irrationalities and factually incorrect information for several years. Al Gore has been clearly insant, making statements that are untrue about indiscriminate rounding up of Arabs and their housing in intolerable conditions following 9/11. And Hillary shrieks every once in awhile about a right wing conspiracy or about somebody, somewhere, on the Republican side trying to suppress her freedom of speech—as if anybody could stop Hillary if they wanted to. Who could forget the Ragin’ Cajun, James Carville, and his erratic sporadic rantings about Republicans and how despicable they are for winning elections and not surrendering to the Democrats. Given these examples, it is understandable that Democrat pundits would find it strange that Saddam Hussein, on the soon-to-be-released tapes of his “cabinet meetings,” would appear calm in contrast. ------------ About the author Brooks A.
