Feb. 16, 2006 What the Media and Democrats are asserting that VP Cheney should have dropped the shot gun pulled out his cell phone and called those reporters on duty at the Whitehouse. Secured the crime seen not allowed anyone near his fallen friend until the media had time to set up their cameras. At the least this could have taken the 13 hours the media claims Cheney stalled the story. Is there any portion of a Presidents or Vice Presidents day they can call their own? Why does the media think they have first rights over all else when it comes to presidential activities? Even when Bill Clinton was quail hunting in the oval office the media felt they should have been invited to film the event. The media has an obsession with crafting news into events. Liberals blame it on News Sources being owned by Corporations. When Benjamin Franklin was peddling his Poor Richards Almanac he sold them to his Brothers Company that also published a newspaper. Corporations own media outlets. Media outlets publish news so why are we surprised? Corporation isn’t a four letter word last time I looked. The media and the Democrats have lost sight of civility regarding the Cheney hunting affair. They’re less concerned with Cheney’s feelings and his friends medial condition than they are they didn’t get the scoop immediately. It’s customary the families of victims not learn of such events on the news. Cheney made the correct decision to see to his friends needs and to respect those involved before releasing any details to the press. The Vice President clearly violated Article IX of the Constitution by doing so, thinking what the hell let them rant. For those unfamiliar with Article IX of the constitution it’s the one that says all government news must be cleared through the Washington Press Corp, never, never, absolutely never is a story pertaining to the three branches of government ever allowed to be reported by any other news media first. Especially by a hick newspaper from a hick town in Texas. Fortunately we have a Vice President who could give a Rats_A** about the feelings of the Washington Press Corp. There are fewer Broke Back Mountain Sheep Herders in Wyoming [Cheney’s Home State] than there are in Hollywood and Washington DC. Dick Cheney’s a man who’s capable and willing to stand and take the heat. He’s made no statement refusing to take responsibility for the accident that wounded his friend. To the contrary in an interview with Britt Hume of Fox Cable News he readily admitted he and only he is to blame. When faced with the same situation prior to the elections in 2004 John Kerry had a hundred and one excuses covering up his accident. There were several incidents on the campaign trail when Democrats faced similar problems that didn’t bring the sky falling down all around us. Teddy Kennedy swam away leaving his victim to die. Democrats are trying to make this into another political screw up for the administration. Cheney’s been honest and forthright in accepting the blame for the unfortunate accident. This is something Democrats don’t understand their first language is lying and subterfuge. In the Democrats view anyone who tells the truth and takes responsibility is clearly hiding something. The Vice President said had he been the one to break the story it would have been even more suspect. He said his first concern was for his friend’s condition. Secondly knowing how the media is quick to jump to assumptions before the facts are known he felt it better to get the facts out with the story. It’s not the way the media likes it but it isn’t about the media, or wasn’t until they were scooped by an insignificant South Texas Newspaper. Its more that the Medias ego’s been challenged than the story its self. This is another non-story that’ll fill the void of news for a few days. In the end the media will be given some form of compensation for the affront by the Whitehouse. David Gregory will move one step closer to taking over as the number one antagonist from Helen Thomas and the games will continue. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes joined the Republican Party at the age of three.
