Feb. 15, 2006 You know who I am starting to really empathize with in the whole Natalee/Joran case? Paul Van Der Sloot, father of Joran. How embarrassed he must be when he is a noted and highly respected judge and pillar of his community. To me, he even looked embarrassed on GMA. On a show on Fox News called "On The Record," Greta Van Susteren, the host , had both Anita and Paul Van Der Sloot on the show and out of the 5 minute interview, Paul only spoke 4 lines. And even those lines were along 5 or 6 words. His wife, Anita, said that her husband was shy. But he, like his delusional wife, believes their son and what he has to say. I know that a parent's love is strong, I have experience in that area. But when your son was the last one to be seen with a girl before she disappears, something is rotten in Denmark. If your husband, who is a judge, suddenly becomes shy in front of the press but yet believes his son, I wonder if he is beginning to doubt his son. Mothers don't want to believe that their children are anything but angels. But yet it is Father that catches you doing something wrong. So did Anita manipulate Paul in the show? My guess is yes, A domineering mother will manipulate her husband and children into a submissive group. Maybe that is the mystery that is Anita Van Der Sloot. Her husband and child are so brow-beaten by her that what she says is golden. I've known both men and women that are this way. And who has not been on TV in America? The Kalpoe brothers nor their family. Seems to me that if Satish and Deepak where such good friends of Joran, they would come out publicly and defend Van Der Sloot. If one of my friends was innocent of a crime of this magnitude, I would be taking out full page ads proclaiming their innocence to the world. But their silence, along with Paul's silence makes me really wonder what Joran has said to his parents and his lawyer in confidence. There is more to this story other than a boy meeting girl, boy slipping girl some drugs and girl becomes missing in a foreign country. Mark my words, something will come out soon. ------------ About the author: Kaycee Nilson has completed her first novel, "Night Falls on Chicago."
