Feb. 12, 2006 Are Americans really that smart they can judge the thoughts and feelings of 1.3 billion Muslims? How do we know what most Muslims believe when we can’t settle on what we believe? I’m not an apologist for any religion. I certainly don’t want to assume I speak for a religion I haven’t studied beyond what I gather from the Media. I’m assuming out of 1.3 billion Muslims Al Qaeda supporters are in the minority and those who are the Media portray as representing all of Islam. Like Christ, Muhammad’s been depicted many times over the years these cartoons aren’t the first. They’re being used by a group of radicals to incite violence. That’s what Al Qaeda is all about. Rather than those reporting on the violence they should be pointing out it isn’t all of Islam it’s only a few. However they leave it to the readers and listeners imaginations. The media leaves us with the belief Al Qaeda is a small group hovelled in mountains caves of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In fact Al Qaeda is a world wide movement with Osama Bin Laden as its spiritual leader probably nothing more. Islam is a religion that demands obedience of its followers. In many cases it condones violence in order to maintain strict adherence to the teachings of the Qur’aan. Moderate Muslims are very aware of these practices. The authority of Muslim Clerics reaches out all over the world. Civil laws come second to religious law in the eyes of devout Muslims. This is a reason we don’t hear more Muslims speaking out on many issues. In fact we see many European Nations acquiescing to the demands of the protesters curtailing free speech in favor of violence by the protesters. Protesters are intimidating people in every corner of the world. Thank God President Bush Spoke out against these protests. Many news originations here in America have given in to the false premise Religion takes president over the public’s interest and freedom of speech, of course with the one exception being Christianity. It’s sad when the New York Times and other newspapers consider pacifying Radical Muslims more important than leaking classified military intelligence. Is the unthinkable thinkable? Are there those in the United States willing to sacrifice the guarantees provided by our constitution in order to establish their own form of government from what they perceive to be, “By the rule of law?” For the past 74 years Liberals have been chopping away at our constitution. They’ve nestled up to every ism known to man. Now they’re willing to accommodate Radical Al Qaeda and even more radial Islam in the belief “If they win we’ll be accepted.” Russia tried that with the Nazis in World War II and eventually lost 6 million of their population by murders starvation and brutality. Every nation that’s adopted Communism has suffered executions of those who believed in freedom running in to the millions. As Al Qaeda is allows advancing through out the world they’ll make the Mongols of old look like Quire boys. The best solution is to identify moderate Muslims, accept them and encourage them to join in the fight against Al Qaeda and its followers. What better intelligence could be attained? At present they fear them more than us. The free world needs to turn that around and encourage them to join with us. It’s a possibility if we try, otherwise why have so many left their homelands to live in countries more democratic than theirs? The answer’s simple, freedom and opportunity. We must accept they’ll bring a segment of their culture with them. Even that disappears in a generation or so. Too many Americans have forgotten the lessons taught by their grandparent who came to America as immigrants. The hostility they faced and the effort it took to overcome their ethnic backgrounds. The world is in a war of religious ideology. Our side needs all the help it can get. Shouldn’t the moderate Muslims be part of that fight? Most Muslims don’t condone what Al Qaeda does. They’ve yet to be recognized as not being part of the mayhem and welcomed into the civilized world of as we Non-Muslims know it. How many of our own religions are questioned, Mormons, Christian Science, Catholics. I can name at least a dozen more that don’t fit what mainstream Protestant Christians believe is the true religion. God invented tolerance and passed it on to his children, it’s a damn shame the grandchildren won’t listen and learn. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes joined the Republican Party at the age of three.
