Feb. 10, 2006 There’s a division among Democrats to how to exploit or curtail their anger. Anger had been their stratigy for wining back the congress until recently. Some of their political advisors disagree with this as a way of gaining additional seats in either houses of congress in the coming mid-term elections. It’s being pointed out the more popular presidents such as Reagan and Clinton were more laidback and jovial by nature. They were less confrontational and cajoled their adversaries into bipartisan cooperation. Those who were of a more confrontational nature were less apt to attract the voter’s attention in a positive manor. Senator Chris Dodd [D-Ct] said “It’s a lot worse for Democrats than it should be.” It’s his contention due to the hostility Democrats aren’t getting their message out or if they are it’s the wrong message. Senator Barack Obama [D-Il] said the majority of voters think the country is moving in the wrong direction, “their not sure yet Democrats can move it in the right direction.” “We’ve been in a reactionary posture too long. I think we’ve been very good at saying no and not good enough at saying yes.” Senator Even Bayh [D-In] said Democrats were too concerned with domestic issues and should concentrate more on the war in Iraq and the war on terror. Many Democrats are concerned the voter’s fear of another 9/11 is greater than their fear of domestic issues. They feel the president and Republicans are better at providing America’s security than Democrats. Dick Morris political advisor and former confident of Bill Clinton says the Democratic Party has concentrated too much of their efforts on Hillary Clinton as a presidential candidate. Mr. Morris believes Hillary brings to much baggage to the race and not only can’t win but prevents any hope of a Democratic candidate wining. John Edwards’s former Vice Presidential candidate believes Democrats should concentrate on the moral issues facing the country. Nearly every poll since President Bush took office give Republicans higher marks for morality than Democrats. On moral issues the Democrats are still stinging from the questionable behavior of President Bill Clinton. Lobbyist Jack Abramoff was to be the Republicans nemeses. Now the public discovers Mr. Abramoff’s lobbying reached the pockets of the Democratic Party all the way up to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. Democrats have other issues they must protect themselves against. Eavesdropping, [data mining] a process used by every president in one form or another since George Washington. Former president Jimmy Carter eluded to the government spying on Dr. King at Mrs. King’s funeral. I’m sure his intention was to fuel the fires of the current charge of the government spying on Americans. What he failed to realize it was Attorney General Robert Kennedy who authorized the wire taps on Dr. King, something that will not go unnoticed in the coming elections. Some of the more radical Democrats are beginning to turn on their party. Cindy Sheehan is challenging long time Senator Feinstein [D-Ca.] Cindy doesn’t stand a chance in hell of becoming a United States Senator. What she can do is distract attention away from legitimate Democratic candidates from California. Cindy Sheehan is coming as close to political cannibalism as is possible. Prominent Democrats have called the president everything from a liar to a Nazi. Yet when some Republican says Democrats are the anger party, Democrats have a case of apoplexy. It seems Democrats take the position we can say it you can’t. There’s little doubt among those who follow politics in both parties that Democrats are in a self_destructive mode. Their advisors have been telling them for the past several elections it isn’t enough to trash the Republicans and the President they need a presentation other than their butt-ugly rhetoric. The voters are well enough informed to decide for themselves who has the better plan. The problem is Democrats don’t have any plans. One Democrat who wished to remain unnamed suggested when he heard a prominent Democrats say they weren’t getting their message through to the voters. His comment was, “But they are and the voters aren’t buying what Democrats are selling.” As Dr. Howard Dean [ DNC-Chairperson] learned, or should have. A little screaming gets attention. A lot of screaming gets you booted. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes joined the Republican Party at the age of three.
